.44 Rem Mag - Why 2 diameters?

Why are there two diameter bullets listed?
.429
.430
Are they for specific guns? Or, will both work in all guns chambered for .44 Rem Mag?

All Hornady jacketed bullets are .430 in diameter. Sierra makes .429 diameter jacketed bullets.

I looked around on the web, I think either one is ok
And I gotta say it. "How soon we forget." Didn't we just finish shoving .358 bullets down a .357 barrel in the not too distant past? :tooth:

what?
You are one of them.
Figure on your actual bore to be somewhere around .429" - .4295". .429-.430 jacketed bullets will be just fine.
With cast lead, we measure the pass-through diameter of the cylinder throats with pin gauges and size the bullets for that. Between Pops and I, the three Rugers after a bit of fire-lapping to achieve consistency, are all getting .432" bullets for their .429-.4295 bores. The S&W Mountain Gun has .428" throats - clearly geared for jacketed - not sure what its ultimate solution will be.

You hit the nail on the head again Bigslug.
They used to sell a lot of hard cast bullets with different diameters for the same nominal caliber. Especially in .45 Colt and .44s. Some older Colts and Rugers ran different than others and you could go up or down a tad to match what you needed for your gun make or particular gun.
Some cast bullet makers still offer some options.
I've seen .303/7.7 **** bullets (jacketed) in .310/.311/.3105 and even .312.

They still do. Here's one example.

Don't know about that, but put a lot of .357's down a .358 barrel.(.35 Rem.)
