The Red Desert is the migration point and winter area for Antelope and Elk. There are many springs in the Desert. Do your home work and you will find the game out there.

So, Mr. Fancy-pants-I-got-all-this-time-off, if I draw a tag, are you coming along?

Problem with pdogs around here is that the plague came thru here about five years ago and the population hasn't recovered hardly any at all. I saw pdog towns that you couldn't clear out by rifle fire in ten years go completely dead and deserted inside of two weeks.

I'm waiting for the population to recover, but at the rate it's happening, it's gonna be a long, long time. I haven't put a bullet into a pdog in almost four years now.

The K-9 Distemper has taken it's toll on Western P-Dog populations. We have a town that covered 3 sections just North of my place. The P-Dogs died off by the thousands 5 years ago. There does not seem to be a recovery. My Varmint Rifles are seldom used these days. So Sad.

JerryBobCo and I found a dogtown where we antelope hunt. It had never been shot and it was literally crawling with football sized (only a slight exaggeration) very dumb dogs. This was in early October and we were antelope hunting. We went back the following March expecting a banner day of pdog popping. But the only thing, and I mean only thing, alive in that town were burrowing owls that had taken over some of the mounds. Most of the holes were covered with spiderwebs.

Pretty sad. But, I suppose nature has its reasons. Lord knows it's next to impossible to control a town by gunfire alone. Poison and plague are the only two sure-fire remedies and the plague is quickest.

Yes, sir - this is antegoat I'm referring to here. It'll be great to have you out there. My daughter is doing pretty danged well with a pdog capable rifle now. You may or may not remember, but I got some great footage of her shooting that AR-15 at soda cans, successfully engaging soda cans @ 100 yards, and she wants to shoot even more.

54 is Crested Butte. Glens place is on the border line of 55/551. If you went 551 you'd hunt from his place and east. My only concern with his place is that you really need snow to move them down since that area is lower in elevation. Unless you went up the backside of Tomichi

I've always had a gut feeling they'd be hiding out on the north side of Tomichi dome....it's the pivot point of the migration route, weather be damned. You're a damn fine HUNTER.....you know the land and the animals. Good job!
God show's mercy on drunks and dumb animals.........two outa three ain't a bad score!

    Colorado application done:

    1) Mulie preference point
    2) Elk preference point
    3) Antelope
    -1st choice, Area 120/121/125/126, buck
    -2nd choice, Area 120/121/125/126, doe

I've also got an application in for Montana mulie which is a very high probability (80%+ historically) of draw, and an antelope, which is a expected be a much lower probability this year due to lower counts. The catch is that if I draw the mulie and/or antelope tags, I may have to wait one more year to do the CO antelope hunt because the seasons nearly overlap. If I get lucky and get both, it only makes sense to travel to one place for two hunts (and only pay for said travel once). That won't be the end of the world: looking at the draw odds, the following year would make for extremely high percentage chance to draw a buck in that same unit with 2 preference points. We'll see how it plays out; Montana will have their results up by mid-April for deer and mid-July for antelope.

I went ahead and did mine, too. I'm still a bit up in the air about this, but I decided to do the following.

    - no antelope. I'll tag along with Mike, Luis and Paul (I hope) and help them.
    - buck deer for 2nd combined season (Oct 18 - 26) for GMU 69 et al.
    - cow elk for 2nd combined season (Oct 18-26) for GMU 69 et al. 2nd choice is bull elk for same area and dates.
    - fall bear (Sept 2-30) for GMU 69 et al. Not likely to draw this one, as I have no preference points. I have a decent chance at getting the others.

I also hope to have a place to hunt late season whitetail near here. There will be over the counter tags for these.

Who knows? It might just be a good year. -:)

FYI, I just now checked for CDOW's web page for draw results. Those for elk, deer and antelope won't be posted until May 30.

Just thought there might be some who would want to know that.

    Jerry -

I just checked a couple of days ago, too, and saw the same thing. Oh, well. I've got plenty of moving planning keeping me busy but am definitely anxious to know how it all pans out.

Funny....a couple of days ago my 2014 points for Deer and Bear were up. Today nothing is up at all. Someone must have finally caught the glitch

If the points are gone does that mean you got drawn?

I wouldn't count on it, Scott. If the info that Dan referred to is the result of a software bug, my guess is that it's not reliable.

Back door is up. Go in like you're trying to buy a habitat stamp, it'll show your current standings. 400s are apps 500 are tags. So it'll say, ie, 435 deer app and 560 deer licence, if you drew. Elk tags in the bag for me

The good news is I and son #1 both have 500's, the bad news is my cousin has just informed me this is the week he is getting married, stay tuned.

Well, using the backdoor to check, it looks I got nothing this year for pronghorn. Not a terrible thing considering I did draw a deer tag for Montana this year (and may still draw pronghorn there), so I'll have to try again next year it seems.

Oh that sucks (the wedding part) But yes if you have two 580's (at least mine is 580) that means a tag of some sort was drawn. Now I don't know if I got my ES or cow tag, but I doubt I'd not draw with 2-3 points

If I understand this right, looks like I drew a cow elk tag (2014 - 580 RES ELK). I don't see a deer license, though, so either it hasn't been posted or I didn't draw. As for elk, I made a drive along the top of one of the mountains in my hunt area, and saw a herd of 10-20 elk, so I at least have a start as to where to scout. Who knows, though, where they'll be in October.

I already received my refund check for fall bear, but I didn't expect to draw that.

If I shoot an 800 lb antelope back in the mountains, that'd about even us up.

Anyway, hopefully this will be a better goat year. Last year I didn't draw, and the year before that the goats were scarcer than hens teeth. There wasn't a single hide at the community skinning tree by the fourth day of the season. There's usually a half dozen or more by mid-morning on opening day.

Anyway, Jerry..............I'm in the mood to chase goats.
