Mike always forgets to mention that 200 lbs. of that was the liver, which we carried out so that his wife could feed him offal.
Nope...not me. She and my inlaws are crazy about pate. I can't stand the stuff. Unless it's well-fried chicken livers, the closest you'll get me to a liver is hauling it off a mountain or dragging it across the plains. Unfortunately, if I leave a liver in the field, I'll be sleeping in the backyard for a while.

If I understand this right, looks like I drew a cow elk tag (2014 - 580 RES ELK). I don't see a deer license, though, so either it hasn't been posted or I didn't draw. As for elk, I made a drive along the top of one of the mountains in my hunt area, and saw a herd of 10-20 elk, so I at least have a start as to where to scout. Who knows, though, where they'll be in October.
I already received my refund check for fall bear, but I didn't expect to draw that.
Yes 580 Res Elk means you drew your tag. Deer points were up and tags were posted, then retracted because CDOW blew it this year and didn't issue ANY tags to non-res hunters so they had to re-draw (funny how things are fine and peachy until the idiots at the Capital decide to combine a failing program with the ONLY successful government agency) so those are not posted.
BUT....official results ARE POSTED FOR ELK!! Got myself a 580 Res 1st choice, Either Sex Muzzleloader 551!!!!
Deer/Antelope/Bear shows "not yet available". Which is funny, because I have already deposited by bear refund check.
Hope everyone that drew tags are successful. For you Colorado residents or anyone with knowledge what are good areas for a nonresident too try and put in for elk. How about mule deer also thanks
Mule deers going to take a few years of building up points. There are areas you can get left overs every year, but there is a reason for that. Usually access. Lots of Hippie-Land area tags, with good deer, but bunny huggers who watch their property like a hawk during seasons and have the sheriff on speed dial. There are big deer every where, but the problem is always access and getting tags. There are probably some options out there with ease of draw and access, I just don't know em. The areas I hunt deer are all very high point areas, even for residents. My main unit is 6-8 points for the better season.
Elk, well during 2nd and 3rd rifle, bull tags are OTC and good for the vast majority of the state, just buy it, hunt. Really hard to pin down good suggestions, over 1mil acres of public land, most of it has elk on it. Better choice is to try and tag along with someone else who has an idea of what they're doing, or hook up with one of the members.
The place we hunted 2 years ago with JBOhio and Chiro, was a first come OTC tag with a cap of 500 tags. That was 2nd rifle in unit 54. Good elk country. Those were either sex tags, and Chiro actually drew a cow tag without a problem, but turned it in to buy the ES tag. Can be a real hard hunt in that area though.
It's official, now. I just finished checking my draw/preference point results, and they match those shown in the 'back door' that Dan mentioned earlier. I have a second rifle season cow elk tag for GMUs 69 and 84, but only a preference point for mule deer. I should be able to hunt deer later in the year, though, as I live in an area that is allowing over the counter whitetail only tags and I've got a good lead on a large organic farm right along the Arkansas river.
Good luck to all who applied, and for all who will be hunting this year.

Gun control laws make about as much sense as taking ex-lax to cure a cough.
Speaking of terrain, is it going to be similar terrain for the muzzle loading season? Better? Worse?
Lower elevation, not as steep. Not sure how well you remember or even paid attention, but when you drove over Monarch Pass on hwy 50 over the Divide, at the bottom of the pass on the western side, is where we will be hunting. So more or less the downward side of the divide going into the Gunnison Valley. Similar in parts, but nothing like where Joe got his. Closer to that other area we worked several days with the skier, but again, not as high elevation. We will be more in the 8.5-9k range

After 15 hours on the road, coming over the top of Monarch Pass got my attention, and the truck on my rearend, and how hard I was on the brakes, and how much I don't like heights:) A little more oxygen is better for this flatlander.

Next year, I'll be sitting on 2 antelope points, so I will hopefully be joining you all next year.
