DRT, I reckon.

I have no beef with this far as I can tell, he cut/stabbed a cop and they busted a cap (well lots of em) on him.

I do have a beef with the lawyers and family thunking this attempted murderer's family/lawyers deserve millions because he was committing a crime and got shot.

"MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – An autopsy report says Martinsburg police officers shot a Virginia man 23 times during an altercation in 2013.

The report says Wayne Arnold Jones died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The 50-year-old Stephens City, Va., man's brothers are suing the city over the shooting on behalf of his estate. The wrongful death lawsuit seeks $200 million in damages.

Media outlets report that the family's lawyer, Sherman L. Lambert Sr., filed a copy of the autopsy report in federal court in Martinsburg on Tuesday. Lambert also filed an amended lawsuit that adds the officers as defendants.

Police have said Jones drew a knife and stabbed one officer during a scuffle.

Last week, a judge ordered the city to provide the autopsy report and a state police report to the plaintiffs."

^There's the problem. They need to produce photographs of the wound, hospital records of the injured cop, and the knife in question.

One very important question...if they hit him 23 times where did the other 177 bullets end up? \sarc

IF it was a valid shoot, then there should be no lawsuit/payout. Like CaliFFL, I'd want to see all the evidence before making a judgement either way.

Couldn't they have just shot the knife out of his hand?

If any of these family members or the lawyers get a penny for this, it is a gross injustice to us all. I'm sorry, but we all must be accountable for our actions. That's the way I was raised and I don't see me changing my views. If judges and juries are this naive then we as a society are doomed.

Late 90 's, when I lived in LA an unbalanced woman hijacked a bus armed with a revolver, after she allowed for the bus to stop at a safe location and all passengers to exit the bus the LAPD put 97 rounds into her!

There was a plane hijacked years ago that was boarded by the French police and I recall reading that this ended in a shootout inside the cockpit, all hijackers, believe they where 4 where killed and the round count was massive, hundreds of rounds in seconds in a tiny space.

Maybe one of those "had to be there" situations?

I don't have a problem with the round count in itself, but like CaliFFL, I wonder how many missed? When that "Oh crap!" moment comes, I can imagine a mag dump being somewhat understandable, but your hit percentage has to be WAY better than some of these clusterflops that we've heard about recently. that NYPD 'shootout' comes to mind, where the cops hit a bunch of non-participants in the process of trying to get their man.

As far as round count goes, look at Bonnie and Clyde! They litterally riddled their bodies with Machine Gun fire, well BARs and Tommy Guns, way past what was needed to kill them. But LEOs when dealing with mad dogs are as human as the rest of us and sometimes just don't want to take a chance on letting a purp live to kill another day. So I don't blame any LEO that participates in such action. They're human and sometimes deal with the more inhuman faction of humanity, so such occurances should be expected to happen from time to time.

This reminds me of the incident in Florida in 2006 in which a cop killer (he killed a Deputy and his K-9. Shot the deputy 8 time two of which were execution-style head shots) was hit 68 times out of 110 shots fired. When grilled by the press as to why this poor unfortunate, mis-guided soul (whom his mother reports was "just turning his life around") was shot so many times, "That's all the bullets we had, or we would have shot him more," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told reporters.

The chief of police was quoted as saying, "That's the worst case of suicide I have ever seen".

Grady Judd is the next county over from us. It would be hard to find a better Sheriff, or a less politically correct one. LOL Personally, I approve of him.... as do most of the voters around these parts. He reminds me of Joe Arpaio.... or the other way 'round.

I would like to know how many total rounds were fired but also out of how many guns?

If six cops did the shooting that's only four rounds per cop with one miss, not bad at all, would have went down in about two seconds.

Who said anything about there being any "fair" in a fight? The dirtbag is dead...he doesn't care how many holes were in him...

Dad always said fight fair was a good way to get your butt handed to you in a box. I feel like that is even more true when edged weapons or guns are involved. Always cheat always win.

there's no ability to read in the US anymore. I said NOTHING about "fair". that was YOUR INTERPRETAION of what I said. I simply said that all the shots/fear, given all the advantages on the cop's side, indicate ineptitude and cowardice. All the shots fired certainly endanger other people, but because YOU weren't endangered, THAT'S OK.

Not all that sure fear played a huge part in it..perhaps they were just making sure he was "no longer a threat"....

Sounds to me he tried 'suicide by cop', and it worked.

yes, but like I said, given that the cops almost always fire at least 6x for every hit that they get, what makes it ok for them to have sprayed another 100+ rds around the neighborhood, hmm?

Your speaking in absolutes, this is not the case in my neck of the woods, the cops in New York and California seem to skew the stats on occasion, but they all seem to be shooting in the same general direction, not spraying the neighborhood.

So, what is the correct pronunciation of your screen name.

The linked story by the OP says he was hit 23 times. It does NOT say how many rounds were fired. Absent that fact it appears that you are pulling out facts not in evidence from an unsavory bodily orifice regarding this particular shooting.
