Want to protect the border and a low cost? Ask for volunteers.

Seriously, I know a few people, including myself, that would sit border watch for free once a week, with my own AR-15 / AK / .308.

Well think about it Snake...Say your truck takes 20 gallons to fill up. 20x.02 =.4

You would only notice a half dollar increase when you filled up. You could really tack on a whole nickel and it wouldn't have a huge impact on the consumer/citizen. Considering all the foklks that get gas in the course of a week, you would have this paid for very quickly.

What a lot of people don't understand, this is not a border states problem, its a national problem. Obummer and his idiots have only made a bad problem worse.
I hate taxes as much as the rest of you, but I would gladly pay another 5 cents a gallon IF the money went to secure our borders.

The problem with any tax increase is twofold- - - - -taxes NEVER go away, even when the problems they're supposed to address don't exist any longer, and then there's the massive fraud and waste involved in collecting and disbursing the funds. I've heard that the state of Tennessee spends around 5% more money collecting the state alcohol tax than the revenue it produces.

Very true, I don't think this end anytime soon, and even if we stop the illegals from coming across, we will always have the drug problem to contend with.
If the feds would put some of there drones to use and take out the leaders and labs of the cartels we might make some headway. Yes I know were invading another country, but hasn't the Mexican govt. said many times that they want our help ??

Posse Comitatus NG can't enforce laws....can't be armed for domestic law enforcement purposes....can't fire back....no Viagra either.

Posse Comitatus does not apply to the National guard of a State acting within their home state. The Governor can arm them and use them at will...more or less.

I fully acknowledge this is a National issue. But lets face it, no one in Boston cares about what is happening in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Obama knows the people in those states that want this problem resolved are not his voters. So until it becomes advantagous to him to do something, he is going to do nothing. This lives the states at critical point. They can continue to say this is a federal problem and Complain as their citizens catch the wraith of inaction or they can nut up and use the devices in their state and resolve the problem at their door.

We complain about big government all the time, but then turn around and pass the buck to the big government when possible. If states want states rights, then they have to start exercising what they have. There is no law that says the states can't protect their borders. There is no law that says the states can't leverage the NG to enforce law when needed. There is no law saying states can't work together to reach a common goal or face a common threat.

Jerry - I hear ya. Raising taxes is never a good idea and you are right, the money is often wasted on some state senator's trip to the bahamas.

I don't think Citizen volunteers is the answer. Most of the folks on this forum I trust to be folks of good character and able to make sound choices. I do not trust half the rednecks in Arizona or Texas to do the same. Within the first week you would have unarmed people shot in the rio grande as they are trying to cross. Thats not protection, that is murder.

Lots of countries want our "help", as long as it comes im the form of $$$$$ they can steal. The only kind of aid that would ever work would come with a tight-fisted accountability for progress made, with the sure and certain possibility of an immediate cutoff if any fraud, waste, or inefficiency became obvious. Never gonna happen, since our own thieving politicians and bureaucrats get their cut of the graft off the top.

Mexico is as "Third World" today as it ever was (although some will say it's "Developing"). Just like in those stereotyped movies, ineptness, laziness, stupidity, massive corruption, poverty, small elite class and a majority unskilled/uneducated peasant class.

They can't and won't provide for their citizens so they let them engage almost Willy-nilly in any activity they choose from human smuggling to drug trafficking to bring cash into their economy, especially if it is directed against the United States. They occasionally feign attempts to put a stop to some of it when it gets news coverage they can't suppress.

The answer.....nothing short of a Marshal type Plan with armed enforcement and the willpower of the Mexicans themselves will ever make a difference. For now we need to contain it and get real serious about border security.

Not these half-assed idys our politicians (both sides) come up with as they pander for votes.

I heard a suggestion somewhere, BO wants billions to deal with this crap, take it from the foreign aide the countrys get these people are from. Doesn't seem like they are using it properly if their people have to run.

Yep. He is talking about $250 per kid, per day for an extended period of time. If I could get that kind of money from the goobermint to take care of my own kids, I would retire and sit at home making babies. I would be filthy rich (and the kids would actually be American citizens). Actually, with just the two kids I have, it would be over $182k a year.

I guess some folks on the south side of Chicago found that out and they are pissed! Apparently Obama cares more about illegal immigrant children than American inner city kids.

That's all nice in theory, in practice, governors have a long history of calling in troops to handle LEO situations .... Ohio National Guard versus Kent State? Also, governors in the Appalachian States would call in Federal Troops whenever feuds got too bad, or started to threaten a county seat, etc. And in the frontier days, the Army of the West was often pressed into law enforcement matters.

Yea, when they got a gunboat and are firing a 50 cal Browning at our Border Patrol agents, it is past time to fire back.

..instead, the Mexican government will recieve a letter from the White House explaining to them just how angry we are. When that doesn't work, we will send ANOTHER letter explaining how angry we a are.

I won't be, but the kids might. Send me a couple of young, strong ones! There's enough work available around the farm to keep them busy, and I won't even make 'em haul those heavy backpacks full of drugs! They'll grow up to vote Republican, too, which will really chap some dummycrap cheeks!

How hard could it be to set up some towers with 50s mounted and wired into motion detectors. Make a 30 yard no mans land. We are being invaded and it needs to stop now.

The border needs to be enforced now for a very good reason. It would be no great shakes for a bunch of sandbox terrorists to cross the same border; that's assuming that they haven't already. When stuff starts blowing up, that might get the attention of some of the whiny liberal "it's for the children" crowd.

Let me point out a fact that very few of our Board Members know about our borders, north or South:

In the past, throughout the Cold War and right up to the present, it is the CANADIAN BORDER that offers the easiest and most secretive entry points into the USA. Spies and those who could do significant damage to us-our way of life and our personal security-traditionally cross from Canada and not Mexico. Even the radical Islamic terrorists that have recently hit us here in the Lower 48 have either entered the USA through our airports or the CANADIAN BORDER and not Mexico.

Don't make the mistake in thinking I have no concern about our Southern border, however. I most certainly do, and if our Border Patrol is taking incoming fire from the Mexican side I totally advocate crossing and straightening out the mess with our military. I question the Mexican government's abilities or desires to straighten it out, but I hope I'm wrong about this.

Yeah, but I couldn't drive legally until 1962, so cars weren't a big deal to me yet. However I did make up for lost time. I had a 1957 Ford, In 1964! Had a 57 Chevy too, in 1979!

If the U.S. had the same laws as Mexico on immigration then we wouldn't have an illegal immigration problem. And if the Fourteenth Amendment was changed to make only children born in the U.S. to U.S. citizens citizens of the U.S. then the anchor baby carrot would be snatched away. In the Northern American hemisphere, Canada and the U.S. are the only highly developed nations that give citizenship by birth to a child born of non citizens.

And if the hiring of illegal aliens had a significant monetary fine, then this would further cut down on the problem.

Or we could just do what President Eisenhower did about the illegal immigration problem back in the early 50s.
