Finishe my European mount

timctimc Posts: 6,684 Senior Member
Decided to do my own European mount to see how hard it was. I found it was not overly difficult to do but it was waaaaay time consuming!
I did come out wiht a nice mount and I ordered a pedestal for it tonight. This will be a welcome addition to my mounts even if the wife doesn't like it!

    Nice.
Just had a friend ask me how to do it. He's got it mostly done, said it was easy but tedious. I concur. He also said he paid TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS to have his last one done. I'll GLADLY do a euro mount for someone for 200 bucks!

And I'd GLADLY pay you, having done most of Dad's 2012 buck myself before handing it over to a buddy for the final bleach and lacquer. As you say, tedious.

I prefer the Euro mounts, which is good, because I don't really have the wall space for full heads. Wife is OK with bones, but not so cool on the glass eyes. Seems to me that it's more of your actual deer than a skull plate and a hide on a foam head.

    It looks good.

Can't ya just nail it to a tree in the back yard and let the maggots do much of it?
I've found them in the woods that seem very clean.

Try putting the skinned head on an active ant-hill, preferably in a dog/coyote free environment.

Squirrel free as well. List a point off of one I was doing that with due to squirrels gnawing on the rack

Great job, Tim! I know the labor sucks, but you did great work.

That's exactly how I feel nowadays. After doing a couple of duck mounts on my own, I now have a FULL understanding as to why a top quality professional waterfowl mount on simple driftwood (no fancy habitat scene) will cost in excess of $300. No way on earth I would charge less for the amount of time you have to put into making one look decent, let alone top shelf. Top quality taxidermy of any kind is very time consuming. I'll pay the $200 - $300 and have my entire weekend (and then some) free to do other stuff.
