Last weekend of the general hunting season

timctimc Posts: 6,684 Senior Member
Out here at the ranch for the last weekend of the general hunting season then we have two weeks of spin/doe season. I don't need any meat since my freezer is full, just really out here to keep my buddies company and maybe shoot a varmint or two. Weather is awesome; not too hot or too cold. Ribeyes, grilled zucchini and salad on the menu tonight. Maybe my buddies will get a deer this weekend which would be nice but for right now I'm just happy to be in the woods...errr... Brush that is.

Yes, we don't have real woods down here, it's brush. Everything out here either sticks, stings, or bites. It's not IF you there's a snake, it's will we see one before he bites us? Or is it cold enough to keep them down?

And we also have our share of cats and coyotes. By cats I mean anything from a Feral house cat to a Bobcat, to a cougar. It's no place for the meek and mild, only the strong at heart. From your pictures displayed your place doesn't look much different than mine. Only thing is we're only about a mile from Karankawa bay. But you'd never know it sitting in a deer blind.

Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.

It is rough country but it does seem to agree with a lot of critters, I just t had 27 turkey stroll by.
Sitting in my dad's blind this evening; been kind of missing him a lot this year. Nobody has really hunted in it since he passed away in 2009 but I keep it in good shape and keep the feeders running for him.

Sounds like a great way to cap off the season. It's always fun going out with zero pressure and the odd chance at a varmint.

Beautiful morning today, very still and quiet. I have an awesome sunrise fixing to break, 38 degrees so it's not too cold, now if I can just get a pig to come out and play.

Be sure to bring a microscope. Otherwise, it's just...uhhh...alchemy.

Why isn't anyone using your dads stand?

Don't really know why, everyone does have their own blind they normally hunt out of. I guess maybe part of the reason is just respect for the old man, there is a lot of game that goes through there. I usually got sit in it about twice a season.

My dad has a knack for picking the spot and building a nice stand, if he is not in them, somebody usually is. I say use it more.
