A few weeks back I asked opinions on which stock to get........................

Here is a link to the thread..... http://forums.gunsandammo.com/showthread.php?22416-If-you-had-to-choose-between-the-3-rifles-in-the-links

The majority of you voted for this one..........

So..............I ring the LGS just prior to Christmas and he said he is willing to get a couple of different stocks in for me to look at.............

Been a bit busy lately and finally today I had a chance to head over and have a look at what he had...............

He brings this out......................( Its not green btw, the lighting in the shop was terrible)

It didn't float my boat in any way shape or form............

...........and he didn't have the one that is in the first link above......................

But, he then brings out another stock, fits the barrelled action into it and passes it across the counter...............

(Its the top one in the pic)

It was a no brainer decision .............so I give him a deposit and pick.................................. the standard walnut stock.

Got a few things to do before I pick it up......Need to drop the Leupold 6-18 scope in and pick out some rings.......drop my 222 over barrel suppressor in so the gunsmith can make up a rear bush and thread the barrel............find some more money...............but I should have the rifle in a couple of weeks.

Reason I chose the standard stock is that its cheaper, more traditional, lighter, slightly shorter ( fits me better) and will be a lot more friendly as far as a 'walking around rifle......( not necessarily in that order I might add)

As far as the thumbhole stock goes, I have been blessed with oversize hands and the top of my thumb knuckle sits hard up against the top of the thumbhole.

Thanks for all your input guys.
As far as the Howa action goes, its not quite as smooth as my Tikka's but is close. The trigger is superb, light, no creep and very crisp. I am looking forward to seeing what she will do..............

Now all I have to do is figure out whether to get stainless rings to match the barrel, or black rings to match the scope.......

That is a good looking stock! I like it much better than the thumbhole.

Yep. The photo doesn't do it justice, it looks much better in the 'flesh' so to speak.

Black rings. Stainless rings look gay.

    You suck.

What caliber again? I guess I could go back and read the old thread and see .204.

I like the one you chose. The classic stock looks better for a hunting rifle. No wonder the laminate stock is heavier; it has more wood in it than the other one due to the design.

I'd order a suppressor but the wait time is running 6 months from time of application to approval (or denial). I'm at the point that I don't plan that far ahead! :rotflmao:

Nice choice. It will probably handle like a dream The "moderator" on a 204 should also reduce the recoil to 22LR levels.
Yes, you SUCK. I've been waiting for my paperwork for over 6 months, for my 22 suppressor.

Nice looking stock. I don't care fer thumb holes either, just don't look right to me fer some reason....unnatural on a gun stock or something.

Some odd reason I think of stock thumb holes as a way my thumb could get broken/twisted..........or if I needed to butt-stroke somebody I would be hampered or in a struggle or something............maybe I'm just over thunking them??????

Nice stock, but it is not a standard stock; it's a Monte Carlo stock. The raised comb gives it away. It should be perfect for hunting though I prefer my competition rifles to have a more pronounced or vertical pistol grip.

And if stainless rings are "gay" what are aluminum rings?

    Ah, you noticed that also.

    Buncha thumbhole haters.

For a person that will redneck a solution instead of paying money, you surprise me Chris. Why pay extra money for a hole/empty space..........?

Except for dinner, cocktails and maybe a rose, you "pay" for women down there?

Anything to do with a woman involves paying.....................either directly or indirectly..

True story: Buddy of mine who got badly burned in 2 divorces now resorts to 'paid women' for pleasure. Not your 'Hang around the street corner types' but a more exclusive class of lady. He argues that he isn't paying for the sex, what he is paying for is the ability to put his clothes back on and walk out the door without looking back, or making promises to 'Yes, I will call you in the morning dear'.............or buy them a house...............
