9 x 23 Winchester

I was up at Academy Sports today and saw this ammo. I'd never heard of it and had to look it up. Seems like a 1911-size frame gun with ballistics similar to a .357.
If ammo wasn't so difficult to come by (probably not at your lgs) it would be a great large-size auto.

Concealed carry is for protection, open carry is for attention.

They have to beef up the action a little bit more to handle the pressures, but it is a really neat gun!

Playing around with the heavy, flat nosed, non-expanding bullets has somewhat taken me away from the Roy Weatherby side of the velocity argument - at least as far as impact effects go. As for trajectory, I don't have a great deal of interest in reaching long distances with handguns beyond the occasional farting around. Finally, as a gun wrench, I'd rather roll with guns that run on low pressure "engines" and last darn near indefinitely than supercharged specimens that require a small box of spares in constant attendance for peace of mind.
Nothing wrong with an IPSC dragster, but I'm not an IPSC drag racer, and the issues surrounding the "Major" power factor make my brain hurt: The original intent was to keep guys from ruling the competition with low-recoiling 9mm's or various light-loaded rounds and give the "mans guns with mans ammo" a chance. But then the gamers creep in with their comp guns and take the recoil down to the girly levels anyway, yet due to the velocity/foot-pounds rules, they are still shooting "mans guns". Since they're not actually killing anything, nor shooting distances where trajectory plays a major part, why not just call a spade a spade, dispense the "Major" concept altogether, and play the game with 9mm's or larger rounds with cat sneeze loads, rather than shoot expensive exotics that fly on the ragged edge of self-destruction? The Cowboy Action shooters have been rolling with loads that Wyatt Earp would laugh at for years - why not IPSC?
