Comments on buying a new revolver

BingBing MemberPosts: 95 Member
I want to add a new revolver to my collection. This will be used primarily for carry on my own property for pest control but my be used for conceal carry I like the idea of having a hammer so that I can fire (what I call double action / single action) where you just pull the trigger with a long trigger pull, or cock the hammer for a shorter trigger pull. Mid range cost, under $600.00 or so. What suggestions do you have ?

Yep, can beat one for the price. Can use .38 Spls for small pest and .357 for most anything you encounter so you have a wide variety of power levels to fire from it.

    Rugged and reliable.

Here are some stainless steel ones which may be best for carrying outdoors a lot for you. Not much more than blued ones.

I think this is a good example of what you're describing.

Knowledge is essential to living freely and fully; understanding gives knowledge purpose and strength; wisdom is combining the two and applying them appropriately in words and actions.

Although I consider the Ruger and S&W to be some of the finest revolvers made, I recently bought 2 Charter Arms, a .38/.357 & a 44spc for CC, the workmanship, finish, & trigger are great, and they cost about half the cost. The only possible drawback is there only 5 shot. Don't even consider a Taurus.

What is a GP-10 like? I have never seen one.

Prowl the used gun cases....Over the past few years I've found some astounding deals...most recently was a mint Model 19 S&W for $400.00 and a NIB 7 1/2" Old Model Vaquero for less than that.....

Thanks guys for all of your comments. I am going to go look at the GP 100 in a four inch barrel, or GP 10, if I can find any. I really appreciate you for the suggestions.

If you can find a used Ruger Security 6, go for it. It was the predecessor to the GP100, and a fine revolver. I have one a 6" stainless........Robin

For a general purpose revolver, you can't beat Ruger. They are nicely priced and you get way more for your money than about any other wheelgun. Check their .357 mag line, as has been recommended. You'll never regret buying a Ruger .357.
