I think that was discussed early on. I can't remember for sure. It may have been too thick. And, .308 brass is far more available.
Well I just made one. Cut 30-06 to 1.8" inside/outside chamfered ran it into a 444 expander and seated a 240gr cast bullet with a 44 mag seater die. So the mechanics of building one will work. My guess is still wall thickness as it affects case capacity sometimes to a significant degree.
So was all my 30-06:tooth:
Really kind of intrigued by Jerm's project and can see myself building one someday if Illinois ever gets with the times. Just wondered if cases could be made in a few less steps.

Top was .308 Win brass. Neck is "dirty" and will clean up with fireforming. Multiple steps to make.
Bottom is .30-06 brass. Neck is cleaner. But, more of a "wasp waist". Will clean up after fireforming. Fewer steps.

Yep. I have used .308's, .243's, and 7/08's for conversions. Actual rifles that work so far... Marlin X7, Savage 110. We will find out about Savage Axis next week, and I will be working with a Ruger American and Mossberg Patriot later. Then there are also conventional threaded barrels that would need gunsmith fitting.
Reason obeys itself; and ignorance submits to whatever is dictated to it.
If this gets beyond the experimental stage, I intend to have factory brass manufactured for it.
Now you're talking, get all the BS cleared out of the way. I can even see this as a factory cartridge someday. It's a much needed commodity what with states where you can only use straight wall cartridges of limited length. There is DEFINITELY a waiting market for this.
Daddy, what's an enabler?
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.
Congratulations on the development and successful use of your Wildcat cartridge Jerm.
You got the "Bear Necessities" knocked out already and I can see good things in the future for this project.
Cool beans.

I sincerely hope this takes off for you. not to many niches to be exploited these days but you found one, ran with it and deserve the reward.
Put me on the list for that factory brass when you get it in hand.
Yall gots no idea how wicked cool a 5.1 pound (without scope) 16.75" barreled bolt gun is.
And I have no idea how said rifle is gonna knock my willy in the dirt with a 265 grain bullet moving 2000 plus FPS....
Worries me just a little bit that I'm thinking like you but that is exactly what I have been envisioning since this tread started. So much so that I have been contemplating a re-barrel of my Ruger Frontier Scout:silly:
The other suckers (volunteer test subjects) sorta poo pooed my barrel choice. They will regret they didn't get a barrel like mine...once they handle it.
Honestly, I knew it would be a handy little rifle. But I had NO idea HOW handy it would be. Or how light.
so when do we get to see all of it rather than just the muzzle:p

It's all relative I suppose.
When you are 4'9", some "things" seem bigger than they actually are. I mean to an oompah loompah, you're a giant!
But I do apologize for the short jokes, please don't bite my ankles off.
I'm gonna crap in your shoe.

We know you are.
Now apologize.

My guess, since the inventors initials are JS that part seems obvious. The extra "S" got no clue!

For the record my Ruger 77/44 weighs 5.25lb without a scope, so I have pretty good idea.
