4.2" Redhawk

4.6" Super Blackhawk

Both would get new grips and FO Sights if I got the gun. The Redhawk would get factory wood grips and the Blackhawk would get Ivory.

There is a significant cost difference as well. In favor of the Super Blackhawk.

The Redhawk for packing around in the woods just to have on you, the Blackhawk for hunting.

Nothing wrong with a Blackhawk as a finisher, but I'd rather have the DA trigger and swing out cylinder for dealing with the unexpected.

The Smith and Wesson. Oh you don't have a Smith and Wesson? Well get one,:tooth:

Actually, and seriously, I think I prefer Black Hawks. I want a SBH in plain ol' 44 Mag. myself. But I want at least a 7" barrel. Helps me point it better.

The Mountain Gun is made for that and is my choice for that purpose. But since that is not in the choices, I would go with the Blackhawk.

I don't like SAs, yet I voted for the SA. I would imagine it would be lighter in the hand. But that's me and my expectations in the field, where I don't expect to need a handgun quickly. You know your handgun needs better than any of us here. If you expect to need it for fast work, the Redhawk will almost certainly be faster to get into action.

It is somewhat ironic. The Mountain Gun is perfect for that application. But, it was such an Elanore, I'm afraid to carry it in the field and mess it up.

Last weekend, I carried my blued 5.5" RedHawk with me on a dove hunt. Had it in a crossdraw holster. Was so stinking hot, I sweated all over the gun and had to give it a thorough wipe down inside and out when I got home for fear of it rusting.

So, I'm looking for something a little more utilitarian with less emotional attachment. But, still a nice/viable addition to the revolver collection.

And no, there is no dangerous game in my parts. No, I don't NEED a .44 Mag as a field gun.

That's not the point. I tend to carry a revolver while hunting. Either a .357 Mag or a .44 Mag.

I was just yankin your chain. Like I said, I do love Black Hawks but what Bigslug said makes a lot of practical sense.

While I do love my .357 Mag., I think in hand guns bigger is better, not that you'll need it for dangerous game, but it just kills everything better. Well not any deader but probably more reliably are the words I'm looking for.

So I voted Redhawk which is really the perfect answer. But for me, I'd still want a 7 inch barrel.

I voted Blackhawk and the reason is simple. I can shoot a Blackhawk much more accurately than I can any double action pistol with equal barrel lengths, even if I cock the double action for single action trigger pull. I don't know why, and it probably shouldn't matter which one I'm shooting, but it is what it is, for me.

Both would serve well for the intended purpose, though.

The blackhawk is lighter and smaller and since you're already carrying something with a long barrel, it's a no brainer.

I prefer the Super Blackhawk in 4 5/8" and that's how I voted. Although a Smith 69 would be a strong second

A good single action is always my choice for a field gun. They just feel right on my hip. Blackhawk!
