A small score............but a score nevertheless............

One of my staff turns up at work and tells me her husbands grandfather (who passed away a year ago) was into hunting and firearms. She hands me a plastic container and asks me if I want it.

Open it up and find this...........................

A WWII bandolier with 4 5 shot stripper clips containing 20 rounds of 303 British............

I said yes.

On the reverse side it has a stencil in a circle but the writing is almost faded out.

    That's cool.
Aim higher, or get a bigger gun.

It is cool - do you have a .303 to shoot it from?

If he doesn't, I see one in his future now.

At last count I had 5 in working order, 2 in original condition ( 1 with aperture sights) and 3 that have been sporterized.............plus one or two others laying around for spare parts...........

Don't know if I will shoot the ammo though, the headstamp is dated 1945...................but I also have 303 dies, projectiles and brass so the stripper clips may get a workout.

    I've shot older.

    It went bang.

1945 ammo in a WWII Enfield? I could see a couple maybe ... and I'd bet it would fire just fine. However it is just neat to have a 70 year old piece of history. The old ammo is corrosive and the brass needs a little love if it possibly could be reloaded. I like it as the time capsule rather than 20 rounds of plinking. Cool piece to have with the 2 originals.

Someone's trash might be your treasure, and this is quite true when firearms are involved....nice score!

That way I've been able to became the "dump" for a handful of Mauser C-96 clips (Picked up from the dirt in a local cop armory), 250 rounds of Norma 7.65 Mauser (About to be disposed into the sea) an original M-1 Carbine carrying bag ("Too ugly" for a friend who bought the .22LR rifle it came with), assorted loose ammo or even in original boxes, Mauser parts and last but not less, even complete firearms! (3 .22LR rifles and a couple of handguns)

I'm with NCFUBAR , you have to shoot a couple of them just for grins and giggles. I was once gifted with a box of 147 grain FMJ .08 rounds, dated from 1944, and I just had to see if they still worked. Make sure to clean the gun after firing, some of the old ammo had corrosive primers. Good shooting, my friend.........robin :applause:

Didnt realize you had a collection of rifles too.
Could be the most world travelled historically significant rifle/cartridge combination in firearms history.

The WW II captured Luftwaffe Mauser 98 that I was instrumental in helping to find a new home for came to me with four rounds of Nazi-headstamped ammo from 1942. I'm pretty sure those rounds aren't going to be fired anytime soon!
