My Grandson and I both missed hogs today.

We were both in my portable tent blind but I had let him sit on the bucket in the blind and I sat in a folding chair which is too low for the window height. I had my neck stretched like a goose and he was leaning forward. About 12 hogs came out into the Sendero about 100 yards out. Great shots. But I couldn't get comfortable and I don't think he was either. I shot first and I know the crosshairs were on the head, but I had it zeroed 2 inches high at 100. So I think I shot over him. My grandson was shook up by my blast and I think he got off target and pulled his shot. Anyway, no pork in the parlor. But it looked good to see that many pigs out today. So in the morning I'll try to rectify myself.

Yeah I've got a PVC stand set up but it's too high for sitting in that folding chair. If I'd had my usual padded bucket it would have been just right. I shot a bob cat out of it the first weekend and I shot that nubber buck out of it, no problem. In fact that Nubber was further away. But sitting in that chair I was too low and had to stretch my neck to shoot.

Anyhow, that's my story and I'ma stickin to it!!!___:tooth:

I have the equivalent of shooting sticks, a stand made of 3/4 inch PVC Pipe, that's just the right height for the window of my tent blind. As for the strawberry jello, we weren't looking for hogs yesterday, they just showed up uninvited. Deer was the order of the day and there weren't any. So we thought we'd pop a couple hogs. But either they ran off to die or we missed, which I believe we didn't do due to their proximity, out in the middle of the sendero and only 100 yards away. Like I said, the problem was that folding chair was too short. It had me straining to look through the scope. I did notice the cross hairs on hog right before it went boom, but I had it sighted in 2" high at 100 yards so I may have shot right over it.

Thou missest the mighty Gog & MaGog !

Too fancy, PVC bounces and is flimsy, you are better served by padded 1/2 inch iron threaded plumbing pipe & threaded fittings....

Very true, but I didn't have the luxury of possessing any steel pipe at the time and had to go with what I had. But actually I can't blame the PVC on this. If I'd been in that blind by myself or had my grandson been by himself either one of us probably would have scored. I now have two good buckets in that blind.

It wouldn't have made any difference if it had been iron pipe, wood sticks or a steel bench. If you aren't comfortable you stand a good chance of missing, even at 100 yards.

Actually, what I have is a bucket and the chair. I put the bucket under the chair. I then am high enough and I also have a back rest while sitting there. That day I had forgot an extra bucket for my grandson. What I've done before is folded the chair up and we both sat on buckets. But that day I left the other bucket in the suburban and was too lazy to walk back and get it. OH well, live and learn.
