I'm really impressed by how that 325 grainer penetrated the scapula on that red boar. Beautiful performance and it looksnlike a genuine keeper. Great job tracking that second one!
Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.
Well, I don't know the "what from" about this - but I have to say I'm impressed! Mighty fine shootin' and mighty fine eatin'! Even if Zee did run into the brush equipped for a knife fight - that could have been his "Tarzan moment"! :worthy:
But I'm surprised CPJ didn't suggest some nail polish for those toes! :rotflmao:

Those were some impressive pigs and kills and it kindo proves the reason 405 gr 45-70's were effective from black powder rifles, they just make big holes. The non meat damage is a testimony to slower and heavier can be better.
The .223 seems to be a "hit and miss" kind of performance, and if you "miss" bone, it's a hit.
The reason I have been looking at bonded bullets in the .243 is this exact reason. If a 100 gr bullet it hits nothing but flesh at 2900 FPS, you get an energy dump and a couple holes. If it hits bone, it has enough mass and hopefully "toughness" to continue without "splashing", which is what I believe the lighter .223's do on tougher game.

Just a big flat chunk of lead boring a hole. No deviation.

I'm like herpes.
I'm always there, you can't get rid of me, and every so often I flare up. The only thing you can do is apply cream when I'm all flared up and in your business.
And the cream this time, is shooting a deer or hog with a .223 with an 80 grain Amax.
So break out the cream!

You know......I'm not sure. Maybe someone should load some up and try
Hey, I have a bunch of 68 grain BT Spitzers ready for Porky. I'll let you know how that works after deer season. But, unlike your rancher buddy, I'll put them in his ear. Most of the time he won't even squeal.
Also, my current .223 has a 1-9 twist so I don't know if it would stabilize an 80 grainer. But if you put em in his ear, those 40 grain V Max would be plenty.
Daddy, what's an enabler?
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.
I got the 4.6" SBH exactly for that reason. Then......left it at home because of the nasty weather. Figured..........I'm taking two handguns..........why bring a third!?! Then.........left both in the blind.
:bang:
The rancher is loading up some 65gr GameKings today as we speak.
And you know what? They'll work just fine if said rancher will put that bullet where it needs to be, like behind or even in the ear. His hog will be DRT and he will not waste any meat.

Zee, I really enjoy your hunt breakdowns, science and all. This could've easily been a "Went hunting in the rain, killed two pigs, it was a good day" kind of story, but you tell it much better than that. Keep 'em coming.

For someone from this site to forget their gun is indeed a rare anomaly.

Yea - I didn't know what a "Gog" was either...

On that, we agree.

Technically speaking......I didn't "forget" my gun. Being the gun nut that I am.......I was saving my gun from exposure to the elements.
I've done it before.
Both.
It's gotta be the right bullet in the right place.
Quit your griping.
There's GOTTA be a good story here - for both.
