  What I could find were only the ones that you don't want. In all seriousness though, i doubt they are as big as you think. I have a set of sights on my HD shotgun that look similar, and they really aren't that big.

  Your link to the Remington shows a sight that looks a whole lot more exposed to damage than the Mossberg and others. It also sits on top of a Weaver-type base, which puts it up level, I'd wager, with the "high Mossberg" sight you're referencing.
  
  I owned a Mossberg 500 for a time with the ghost ring factory sights, and wouldn't hesitate to get another. The height you're looking at on that rear sight is mostly the "ears" protecting the sight. With the standard stock configuration, I got a near-perfect cheek weld to line up with the sights with little effort, and that's why you probably won't see many ghost rings with a super low profile. Most aftermarket I've seen have been pretty dramatic in their apparent height over the gun's bore, and mostly by necessity.

  Remember, you have to get your eye centered behind that ghost-ring aperture to get a proper sight picture, and with a higher rear sight, you need a higher front sight or you're gonna be sailing all your shots over the target. Most bead-sighted and vent-rib shotguns are set up to get your sight plane somewhat below your eye's line of sight, so the target actually tends to appear to float above the bead with quick-shooting target acquisition. You could get lower sights, but you'd need to also get a stock with a more dramatic drop in its shape, which winds up slamming into your face under recoil more and making the gun less controllable.

  The Mossberg sights aren't all THAT tall, and consider also - extra height equals extra room for elevation adjustment. This is no small issue when you consider that most slugs share ballistic coefficient numbers with a Greyhound bus.

  It was mainly the height of the front sight that bothered me. It seems to be the proper elevation to snag on everything. I didnt like the Mossberg gunrunner posted the link to, the Stevens has potential. Ah hell im gonna have to go handle them, thanks guys.

  I actually though of installing a tang mounted peep. As many guys that own the Mossbergs, you'd think someone would make a few things. Like an flashlight mount for the bayonet, or a rear sight that screws right into the ones already tapped on the 590. Maybe we should start making and selling them.

  I don't know if you can still find them (and I don't care for the LOGO on the side either) but does the Blackwater edition of the 590 have the type you want?

  Here is more what I had in mind. This would secure to the already tapped back holes on the M590. It would be pretty small, but still large enough for an oversized peep, just not as large as a ghost ring. A simple front sight similar to the meprolight would complete the set.

  Here are a couple more. I patterned this shotgun more or less after the M500. The scale should be very close. Of course being a shorty, it makes the sight look larger than it actually would, but you get the idea.

  The issue with any of the peep sights is going to be the need for a higher front sight. The mere difference in the height off the bore-line between the receiver-mounted rear sight and a front sight on a tapered barrel will be pretty dramatic. Rifle sights - mounted front and rear on the barrel - have less of a disparity, so I don't think you'll find any option that uses a "low" front sight.

  I didn't raise the front much at all....1/4" if I had to guess. The gold bead is already there, so raising it just enough to clear the mount steel and the tiny bit of post on the sight. If someone can tell me how to make it lower than that, I am all ears.
