Some drivers shouldn't allowed behind the wheel

Oldest daughter came to visit and we decided to visit Mrs Chiefs grave and take some flowers. I've been there a few times since her internment. Anyway it is a little bit of a drive and mostly on two-lane winding back roads.

Maybe passed one or two vehicles in one stretch then in a 55 mph zone I see a smallish older pick-up slowing to make a turn from the opposite direction and thought nothing of it until the idiot didn't stop and was just moving at a crawl and pulled right out in front of me to make his turn.

So I slammed on the brakes (they work good) and stupid just kept on puttering and I laid on the horn for a few seconds, what an IDIOT he must of have been totally inattentive/drunk/on drugs or something. Hard to miss a big white SUV right in front of your turn coming from the other way........nothing behind me and looked like he was headed to one of the few houses down that short street.

Anyway, fer a second I thought I might be joining Mrs Chief. Man talk about getting the ole HR up a bit fer a spell.....................

The Denver metro area where I live is a third world bed of chaos. No traffic laws, no value for human life.

I see people every day that shouldn't be allowed in civil society, and that's excluding people the do dangerous things because of distraction or ignorance.
My thoughts are generally clear. My typing, not so much.

And they think gun owners are dangerous people ...

Glad you and your oldest are safe.

Stupid drivers are everywhere you can't get away from them , expect them to do anything.

Glad *you* were paying attention. When I was learning to drive, Dad always told me to expect the absolute dumbest thing everyone around me could do and prepare for it. He was right.

As I've grown up, I've become a big proponent of John Boyd's OODA Loop in a number of areas in my life, including driving.
“A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.”

I just pretend that everyone out there wants to kill me, and that every child or dog on the side of the road is looking to commit suicide. I make a game out of it, rather than allowing myself to become obsessed by it. I have avoided some catastrophes, and, so far, still don't obstruct the law-abiding traffic...although I'll admit to frustrating a few overly aggressive tail-gaters. Getting flipped off doesn't anger me, though, and it's been at least ten years since I've flipped the bird to another driver.

I try to be a defensive driver and anticipate what others may do, but this caught me way off guard. I mean I see folks doing a "Rolling Stop" at intersections/stop signs ahead and then I figure they won't stop and allow room for them to come on out into your lane and those from side roads pulling out way too late to have time to merge without having me slow down or brake. This time it just didn't click someone could be so stupid when it was obvious it was a 55 mph two lane road.

What "Kills" me in this instance and many similar ones over the years where folks have pulled out in front of me is there wasn't a cotton pickin thing behind me, zilch... notta. Not like dense city traffic where if they didn't try to get out they would be stuck there for a while until the next chance.

Also, I have seen them time and time again be at a stop sign/coming from a side-road from way back and they wait and wait then putter out right in front of you after sitting there like they are gonna wait, then they decide at the last minute they can "Make it" Like they lost all concept of a moving object coming at them and them being at a standstill and what it would take to keep the two apart.

On trick is on a 4 lane road they pull out in front of you, but to be nice or safe or whatever they think they are doing, they jump to the outer lane thinking they did you a favor, problem is I have had to jump back into the inner lane before because I changed lanes to avoid crashing into them thus they are creating a dangerous situation because they don't know what the other driver may do trying to miss them.

Anyway, drive safely guys, you never know what's around the corner, as they say. :driving: :driving:
