Obama raising Marshall Law

ghostsniper1ghostsniper1 BannedPosts: 2,645 Senior Member
With the OWS bunch seeming to be just conveniently around or nearing election time, I have a feeling that riots will innsue and Mr Obama will have a good oppurtunity to bring about Marshall Law which will mean that the upcoming election will be postponed for any given time. May sound like I have my tinfoil hat on, but seems plauseable at the same time. What say you?

    Good grief Charlie Brown.

Yea, that's what he's going to do.

Hmmmm... Thats not very open minded. If it does happen, can I say TOLD YOU SO? It would be a perfect oppurtunity. I may be young, but things just seem to be taking a different direction than ever before in the history of the US, but more along the lines of what Hitler pulled in his reign. You guys gotta admit that strange courses are taking place. History repeats itself.

I've seen a few ominous warning from Germans, Jews, and Russians who were around for the crazyness, and I know history pretty well. Then again for all his antics he's not stupid. I doubt he would risk causing a full on up rising, assuming more than 10% of the population can be bothered to get off the couch and turn off the "reality" tv.

It really wouldn't supprise me either way.

As I stated, I know it sounds far fetched. But Obama scares the hell out out of me. As if he has alternative motives beyond those that "every other," politician has had. I could just see him trying some BS like that to hold office for as long as possible and maybe even trying to become a dictator. Hell, who is to stop him? He can sign alone, by himself the U.S. into Marshall Law. That trumps the House, the Senate, etc... Only people than to throw him out is the military or an uprising of us citizens. I dont think it is far fetched at all. As I stated, that man scares me. He is an oddball out of ALL previous presidents (and no not by race.)

    FYI
    Martial law
is the imposition of military rule by military authorities over designated regions on an emergency basis

Yes you do have your tinfoil hat on but you probably forgot "shiny side out"!

Zero chance of Obama invoking Marshal Law. He'd have to activate the National Guard for any domestic problem and that would, I think, require the state governor to ask for this.

Totally not plausible. Totally not election being postponed. Totally not end of the world Dec 22 2012, either. Or zombie attack. Or space alien attack. Now, I would consider the possibility of Loch Ness Monster attack. But just in case, please send all your money and guns to us so we can keep them "safe" for you until things calm down. Right.

Don't worry about the paranoid BS stuff, pal. It ain't gonna happen. Instead focus on Obama and his willing cooperative press trying to simply getting him legally reelected. It's the real stuff we need to worry about.

Sorry to be kinda harsh on you but you have to remember that the liberals were all worried a few years back that Bush would declare Marshal Law and cancel the election. That didn't happen either.

    Aiin't gonna happen.

Same things were said of President Bush by some democrats. I don't see it happening myself but it has been a possibility for some time.

If you read conservative forums like Vision2America or Conservative Byte, many of the posts in there reflect the same fears. He did say in the campaign he wanted a civilian defense force equal in power and funding as the US military. That would scare me more than the possibility of marshal law.

If they can't spell it, they probably can't understand it. Somebody's got to enforce MARTIAL LAW (hint- - - - -"martial" means "military"). It would take the full cooperation of our military to allow some tinpot dictator wannabe to suspend the rule of law and take over the day-to-day administration of the country. I'm sure there's at least a few high-ranking officers who would be willing to apply some John Browning justice (1911 style) to any idiot dumb enough to give that power grab a try.

    Or maybe Martian Law?

I would think that Martian law is a more likely scenario. Little green men declaring themselves dictators for life of the solar system. Obama a dictator? Not a chance those in the military that are sworn to uphold the Constitution are going to let that happen. Or Martian law either for that matter.

No way martial law.Too many powerful people in the military and on both sides of the political spectrum would have to agree.
His statements about raising a civilian {para military} force may be something else to keep in mind though if his polls & the economy don't improve.
Pretty far fetched , but not beyond the realm of possiblity. The Chicago political machine is used to getting it's own way.

Okay so I just did the research on Martial Law which I should have done before posting. Seems alot of you are wrong. The president alone CAN put it in place on a national level and be in full control (he is the commander in chief.) Now whether he would do it or not to keep in office is pure paranoia actually, but still possible. Seems that the implication of national martial law can strip us of ALL of our constitutional rights and habeas corpus.

Ii no. Purrfict haz too "r"'s.

BTW, Ghostsniper: I'm just playing along with MMD. I knew what you were meaning. Context will get one past spelling errors, if one thinks about it.
    I'm just here for snark.

I have done some too but my memory is shot s I'll not comment on the legalitys of it with out some cliff notes handy BUUUUT one thing to keep in mind.. suuure he can say anything he wants even call himself ruler of the world but who's gonna enforce it? Not every cop and military person is just gonna take those orders at face value and follow order for the sake of following orders

You're missing the point. The prez can go on national TV and announce that everybody is required to wear purple knee socks and an orange wig if he chooses. The rest of the country has the option of doing what they're told, or telling him to go whiz up a rope. It's the same with declaring martial law. Just because some desperate clown decides to stay in power forever by ordering the military to take control of the country doesn't mean it will ever happen. Somebody would punch a president's ticket if he ever tried such an idiotic maneuver, and he would probably be wearing several stars on his shoulders.

:agree: What or whom will have the balls to say NO if he did make this call? Thats what Im saying. I know that I can't stand against the national guard if and Obummer signed Martial Law into legislation. Hell, Lincoln did it. Why couldn't Obama? Thats all Im saying. Even if he did dare, Im sure it would work for long enough to cause an impact on the U.S. before it or he crumbled miserably.

To successfully declare and maintain martial law, a president would need to have the respect of the military. Barrack doesn't.
