Prayer Request

Son #2 stubbed his big toe in January and it was swelled up but he was pretty functional and was icing it and it was better after I worked on it, kind of forgot about it until he mentioned it still hurt in early February, we got an xray and the radiologist and MD were thinking it was fine, but me and the wife did not like the way the joint looked, there was a slight black line which is not good, but on an adolescent in the middle of a big growth spurt, it might be nothing. We sent the films out to another radiologist to read and he agreed with us and added there may be an infection as opposed to a fracture and recommended an MRI. We get the MRI and there is an infection, so back to the MD and start on some oral antibiotics until we can see a podiatrist, the podiatrist was a bit skeptical and just looked at the MRI without an office visit and said he would not see him, that he needed to see a infection specialist. We see the infection specialist and he is a bit concerned about the amount of time that has passed, but if it was Staph we would be having a bad day so it is probably an anaerobic infection and as such progresses slowly. So, son #2 needs a biopsy to see what is in the toe and will probably get a pick to administer IV antibiotics for 6 weeks which should be fine since his immune system seems to be dealing with it anyway, but, there is still a "10%" chance he might need his toe amputated, I am not concerned about this, but prayers would be appreciated.

My dad blew 2 toes off in a hunting accident in his early 20s and I don't think he ever missed 'em. It was his big toe and the one immediately following.

    Healing prayers flowing from SoCal.

I'm guessing that since it was so slow growing, the antibiotics will knock it out.

Wow. How does stubbing a toe cause an infection?

Localized inflammation due to injury at a joint far from the heart can result in infection due to a stressed local immune response, it is easier for a bad bug to get a foothold if your immune response is temporarily compromised due to the injury.
