Things have changed at work, no company truck for me.....
Well, the boss called the other day to tell me they just bought five company trucks, but I prolly won't be getting one of them.........Because it looks like at first of the year, I'll prolly be moving into our design department full time. I'm still waiting on a 100% commitment from the owner of the company, but it's looking very, very good right now. Like 98% right now.
This is the career move I've been striving for, so when it pans out, it will make for a heck of a Christmas present.
There are a few down sides, such as the office is almost two hours drive, one way, and I might not be eligible for a raise this Jan., but....it's worth it. This is the career move that allowed my dad to eventually make BIG money (well over 100k a year), while working from home in his underbritches. Though working from home is probably several years away, and making the BIG money a little farther, it's very doable by the time I'm in my early 40's, maybe earlier than that.
I'm very excited at the chance to finally work to my full potential. I pretty much reached the peak of my career in the field several years ago, and work lately has been more frustrating that anything, because I can see better, more profitable ways of doing things, but I couldn't do anything about it. That's hopefully gonna change in about a month. Plus, no more pooping in a port-a-john when it's 100, or 15, degrees outside. (trying to make an a$$ gasket when it's cold as heck sucks) :roll2:
I'm a little apprehensive about a few things, such as office BS. I traditionally don't do very well with BS, or stupidity, and tend to tell folks to remove their head from their anus in short order (along with a few other not so nice things). That's not gonna fly in the office (I've tried before, it seems that incompetent folk take offense to being told they are stuck on stupid) I can generally say what I want in the field (for the most part), so I've got to work on learning to keep my mouth shut. :tooth:
I'm also a worried about being able to keep up, and make the cut. Time will tell. Yall keep me in your prayers please.

Just keep climbing the ladder, and remember to stomp on the fingers of those trying to climb past you! :tooth:

Thanks Paul! I had my doubts at first, but it looks as though my old company shutting down as really worked out to the better.
Thanks Jerry! I have often admired your the way you managed to work in the public school system for so long. Dealing with school administrators on a daily basis is the ultimate form of office BS.
I think my studying has a played a large part in it, I just have so much more to go.....AAMOF, I'm fixing to break out the calculator again lol.
I already do most of the stuff you mentioned. My biggest issue is not with folks who are ignorant and have a willingness to learn, it's with the folks who refuse to learn, even when you present them with facts. You wouldn't think this would be a problem when dealing with grown adults, but these type of people seem to flock to my industry. I haven't watched the vid yet, but I'm fixing to.
I know lol. Something about earning a living while scratching my junk in my underbritches has a certain allure to it.
Hope it happens.
Of course, if you get to the 100K, you have the bill for supper at the SE Shoot.

Congrats, Barry. I know you've been working hard for this, and it's great to hear it's going to work out.
It's pretty hard to move from the field to the office, not many can accomplish that. I'm sure it'll work out for you. Just keep your head down, don't get sucked in to the BS.
As for the commute, I'll second the notion of something cheap and fuel efficient. I can't remember what part of the country you're in, but if the weather is good most of the year, sounds like an awesome excuse to get a bike. No better way to de-stress after a long day than cruising home on your Harley.
One day, I hope that I'll be able to make an as needed trip to garden. It would certainly help take the stress out of the work day. As far as the 100k salary, that still might be a little while lol. I don't make anywhere near that now.
Well, as to the thing with the lead secretary....... I pooped in her cornflakes several times a long time ago. :tooth: But I'm committed to making this work. This could benefit my family to much for me to piss it away by arguing with an office manager. While she wouldn't be my boss by any stretch, she can make life hard in a lot of other ways.
That's my plan. I won't be a doormat for sure, but the phrase "pick your battles" really applies here.
Excellent advice for sure. I'm on new turf here, so there is a certain amount of BS that comes with that anyway. I can live with that. Plus, if I feel like strangling folks, I'll come here and vent for a while. :roll2:
As to getting another vehicle, that's prolly not gonna happen any time soon. I'll hopefully be debt free, other than my little piece of land and home, next spring, so I don't wanna take on new debt, if I can help it. That's where all my tax refund is going, to pay off bills. We have my wife's Caravan that I can drive, if I need to. It needs some money put into it, but that still beats four years of payments. Plus I'm gonna prolly stay at my mom's house a few days a week to save fuel and help me get more rest, at least in the short term.
