I saw this on Ruger's site the other day. 77 /.357 I am sort of intrigued but mainly would like to see everyone's opinions. Is it a winner or another Ruger yawner?

I'm with BP on this one. I have played with the idea of getting one in my mind and I couldn't come up with anything that would answer the question of "Why".

Some states have some funky restrictions on firearms. I think.....Ohio?....has some rule that you can only use straight walled pistol cartridges in a rifle. Or something like that.
I think it looks like a fun lil plinker. Probably serve well for small southern deer and maybe smaller hogs?
More than anything, I am trying to figure out Ruger's marketing and product strategy. It seems like they come out with more guns than any other that screams "WHY?". I think it is great that continue to introduce new products instead of sitting on their laurels but I seem to think they have their priorities or market research mixed up.
But, if you AREN't on of those guys..........doesn't really do much of anything and is very expensive and limited.
They have you covered there....this has been available for about 10 years

Absolutely! It would match my SRH in 454 too. I have read somewhere that 454Casull out of a rifle is pretty close in numbers to 45-70. That would make a well rounded out package, popcorn fart 45 colt reloads all the way up to Double Tap 400 Grain 454 Casull loads.
I would like to see Ruger bring the #3 back and chamber it in .460 S&W among others. They are already chambering the #1 Medium Sporter in that for a cool $1295.
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.
I think it may be Indiana that allows straight wall handgun calibers for deer hunting. There has been some talk of it here in Illinois but no such luck yet.
As to why,, I say why not. There are quite a few of our brothers who rave about their .357 leverguns and nobody questions them. This give those who find pistol caliber rifles interesting and gives an option for those who don't dig leverguns.
I for one have been interested in the .44 version for some time and will buy one when the deal comes along.

Ruger sure has some off the wall offering, at times. I hope their market research was good and it sells a bunch, however from opinions thus far on this forum, it ain't catching on so good.
I dunno the $$$$, but if it were cheap enough it would be fun to fart around with. Kinda like a bolt action shotgun:usa::usa:

Not if the handgun is a Ruger. I'd run any snot slinging loads that I would run through my mod 94 through my redhawk as well. Not my 629 though.
Ruger is definitely not sitting their laurels. It will be interesting to see what stays in their catalog and what falls out. I am disappointed that they are virtually dropping all the full stocked Model 77s and some other products while bringing out new stuff.

That is true, plus Ruger has played the " distributor specials " and uncatalogued releases for years, sometimes causing collector frenzies. I had a Speed Six that was rollmarked Service Six, another of those " kick myself for selling". If you look around on the auction sites and big wholesalers you can find all sorts of interesting chambering and specials like #1 .35 Whelen and even a #1 in 30-30. I friend of mine has a .308 SS International that he found on Lipsey's site.

If you want a #1 Standard, you might want to check with Lipseys, whom I believe has a variety of calibers in stock.
We dropped the rifle from our catalog offerings because the volume – or lack thereof – dictated that change. We have found, however, that the old adage, "absence makes the heart grow fonder," works for items we remove from the catalog. After they stay out for a few years, it can be worth bringing them back for a limited engagement. All the fence-sitters get one more chance to buy the firearm they were thinking so hard about but never taking action on. So you might see the #1 Standard again.

Ain't that a teaser. Now if they would bring back a limited run of #3's in .45-70 and .22 Hornet!!!
