Today was my first moose hunt

Unfortunately I didn't get one today. But one from our club was lucky and got one young bull. Fortunately we still have licenses left. Five adults and ten calfs. Even as I didn't get my first moose it was a great day. And tomorrow we'll go hunting again. Hopefully one will run to me as we hunt them with driven hunt method.

Oh, BTW, do you want see pictures from my hunting days or are they boring as f**k??

Keep'em coming! I, for one, like to see and hear how hunting is done in other parts of the world. Particularly since I'll never be able to personally experience it.

Do bears poop in the woods? Heck yea, post them up!!! I think it is mandatory. The schedule of fines have not been approved yet, but I hear the moderators will be enacting them soon for people that go hunting and do not post pictures.

What do they grow in the field you were looking over?

    That is beautiful country.

There was barley before the threshing (right word?) That field is a known place for moose to cross when they are driven with the dog/and/or men. In a driven hunts it's based on educated guesses where the moose will do it's "fly by" when driven. That was my standing point and GPS showed that moose had been three times on the other side's forest almost to be seen. But just almost. Shooting distance would have been around 120-170 yards if it had shown itself. Perhaps tomorrow in some other standing point :)

I am a firm believer that large game animals such as moose look so much prettier once the are loaded in a truck or trailer. :jester:

    Thanks for sharing.

Please continue to post the photos.....the more the better! Farm Boy Deuce and I make our living out of the dirt, so we're interested in what is growing there. Me, especially, since my profession was/is forestry and wildlife management. I want to see photos of everything growing there! Those conifers growing beyond the field....planted....almost sure of this.

I had completely forgotten about barley. My grandfather used to plant ~10 acres every year, he never bought new seed so the heads were pretty runty and inbred.

Grandpa just planted it for feed. We would grind a barley, wheat, milo (sorghum), alfalfa mix in the hammer mill. We always made a couple hundred square bales of barley straw as well. Running the hammer mill was a no fun job. Shovel the grain into the truck, hook the tractor up, shovel the grain into the mill. Unhook and clean up. Being 10 years old and shoveling 2 tons (1 ton twice) of grain in a day was almost like real work. At least that was what everyone told me.

    I almost forgot.

About 10 years ago a good friend of mine killed a cow moose, and gave us some of the meat. It was hands down the best game meat I have ever eaten.

Second that.I was fortunate enough to share in that meal and I told Jerry at the time that I'd trade every deer I'd ever killed for a quarter of a moose. Hands down, best game meat I've ever had.
