Handgun hunters. What do you hunt with?

in Hunting #1
For all of you handgun hunters out there, what do you use? I want to buy another pistol to hunt deer and hogs with and haven't decided yet. I thought some ideas from the group would be really helpful.

    Double Action Revolver
    Break Action SP
    Falling Block SP
    Bolt Action SP
    Semi-Auto Pistol

    I like them all and they all work.

    You gotta be more specific as to how you want to hunt and what style of handgun you prefer.

    Ruger 22/45 22lr pistol, 5" barrel, open sights.

    Unsuccessfully
    Ruger SuperBlackHawk 4 5/8" barrel, open sights.

    Taken small game as chance opportunity with a few others.
    My thoughts are generally clear. My typing, not so much.

    From auto, to revolver, to single shot

    Handgun hunting is like a game of golf. You can play the whole course with a 2 iron but it's easier with a whole bag of options

    So far, I only have 2. A single shot (CVA Scout in 243Win) and a revolver ( Ruger Super RedHawk in .454 Casull). So fat, they have just been used hunting wise on whitetail deer at ranges out to 130 yards

    I have a RSRH in .454 casull and a S&W mountain gun in .41 mag. Both kill deer. I have used the Ruger on cow elk. Both do the job.

    Ruger has models with integral scope rings.

    You already have the SBH Bisley in .454 Casull, correct?

    Personally, I prefer the Redhawk to the Super Redhawk. Since you mentioned the desire to scope the revolver, my choice would be a Redhawk with a Weighand Base or a Redhawk Hunter Model.

    The Redhawk is my favorite hunting revolver. After the SBH Bisley, of course.

    If you really wanted the SRH, I prefer the 5" Toklat.

    I have a Ruger Redhawk Hunter 44 Mag that I bought specifically to hunt with, but I haven't had a chance to yet.

    In other words, take what you can shoot good and practice with it, and go forth and do it! That's the way I think Zee or Wambli or any serious hunter would do.

    Hoping to use my homemade 357 Mag next season. 10.5 inch bbl and it will be scoped with a LER.

    .45 Colt Blackhawk, with some 300 grain hardcast handloads. They've been called "T-Rex" loads by some of the guys who have fired a cylinder or two. They chrono at around 1300 FPS from a 6" barrel, and penetrate 18" or so in wet newsprint with no expansion whatsoever. One of these days I'll find a deer who wanders within 30 yards or so and I'll see how it works on something with hide and hair!
