This morning opened up dark and miserable. It was pouring rain and it was dark. very dark. Not the greatest morning to go for moose hunt. We had only one dog and I was standing in my place. Under the big pine tree and big drops of water hit me with a constant rhythm. I saw a four pack of deers running in the woods across the field but not a chance even to try shoot at them. Too far away, too dense.
I heard dog coming closer but I was certain it would follow those deers I saw a few minutes earlier. Suddenly one deer bolted from the forest to clover field. I tried to find the dog but couldn't see it. I had to wait until I was 1005 sure the dog is not in the background close to the deer. Meanwhile deer had turned farther away from me. Quick negotiations by myself was it too far away already. I made a decision to shoot. Nothin' happened. No jump, no bending knees. Just tail up and more speed. I missed difficult shot. when the deer stopped even further away from me something told me to shoot again, just in case. Deer was standing it's rear end towards me. Dog was approaching through the field. Dog was perhaps 30 yards from the deer when I sent 170gr bullet on it's way. Tail up and there it went into the bushes. Nothing else. Bummer!

Dog followed the deer barking like a mad. Suddenly it stopped in the bushes. I decided to go and check out as it's a clear sign of the fallen animal. I walked there and saw nothing. Bark was about 150 yards away and I thought I really missed my shots. Suddenly I heard a shot. Dog's owner had followed his dog with GPS signal from the collar and there it was with a fallen deer. Both my shot had hit it but it needed a head shot after it's death run. Phew... I can still shoot.

At later day we got another deer and two moose calves. Two moose cow permissions left after this week end. No pictures from the nature due the rain. Sorry. Took a couple quick photos of the deer hangin' at my place.

After all what a great weekend. Yesterday I got a young bull moose and today a deer. Great hunting. It's been an incredible starting season for my big game hunting so far. A roe deer, three deers and two moose. In my wildest dreams I couldn't imagine anything like this.

An old north Michigan slogan/question often repeated by my Dad when greeting fellow hunters or people fising is, "where you stacking em'?" In your case you'll soon be stacking em' like that cord wood in the garage.
My thoughts are generally clear. My typing, not so much.
