The Electoral College was created for two reasons. The first purpose was to create a buffer between population and the selection of a President. The second as part of the structure of the government that gave extra power to the smaller states.
This letter in the WSJ in reference to Hillary losing, it is short and to the point.

Yep, they would starve to death and even if they could eek out some kind of living, they'd have to have a good understanding country boy next door neighbor to prime their water pump or help them clean out their septic tank. Most of these people would be lost trying to raise chickens, or milk a cow. Can you imagine watching one of em butchering a hog or a steer? They'd be lost.
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.
That's what's annoying about his tossing around data and statistics to make an erroneous point. He seems to think that everyone here is too stupid to catch it.

I'm saying that the clear majority of people who are born, grew up, and are living in big cities are totally and wholly ill equipped to live in a rural setting, and would not want to in any case. There are exceptions, but they ARE NOT the rule, and you know that.
If you were not born in a city of well over 1,000,000 people, grew up there, and have lived your WHOLE LIFE there, then you're being disingenuous.
If you need an example, then I will supply one. Three farms of approximately one quarter section each, one south of me and two north of me, were cut up into 'baby farms' of slightly over 5 acres each. That slightly over 5 acres size is important; seller does NOT have to disclose flood plain and other critical info here because of that. Had folks from several big towns, and some FL folks seeking to escape the hurricanes, buy these 5+ acre plots for at least 3X actual worth; auctions are a lousy way to buy property, and PT Barnum was right.
About the land here; some is suitable for homes, and a lot is not. The 'city folk' didn't do their homework. They went all PMS when they found out that there was no public utility water and sewer hookup and they'd have to get a well drilled and put in a septic tank. Then many found out that the soil was unsuitable for septic tanks due to lack of ability for septic tank and lines to 'perk' requiring a HUGE expenditure in septic tank field lines to make up for that defect. Then they found out that just because there was a creek flowing through the property that drilling a well was not going to be a shallow well proposition; 300 feet is the norm providing you can hit a stream big enough to supply your needs.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!!!!!!!!! I mentioned the creek flowing through the property. The creek bottom is fairly flat on both sides. Guess where the houses and single and double wides were put. Guess what the creek does 3-5 times per year during heavy rains. Guess who pitched another PMS hissy conniption fit and wanted the county government to 'DO SOMETHING' about the multiple annual floodings of their property and being in a 'house boat' occasionally.
Did any of them ask the locals about problems? A few. Did they listen to what they were told and act accordingly? Very few; actually practically none. We were just ignorant country rubes trying to discourage them, in the majority of their STATED opinions.
So, that is why I said what I said, and stand by it. And I laugh my butt off every time it rains for a long time and the creek floods, their septic tank backs up due to the flooding, and their driveway is 2 feet under water.
Prologue: finally got public utility potable water run through, and it has enough chlorine added to gag a buzzard off a gut wagon on any given day. There's been a few blondes with funny colored hair occasionally because of it which required some expensive water treatment equipment for those that could afford it. Most went back to the well water for everything except clothes washing being that there was no need to buy chlorine bleach for the white clothes, but the color clothes suffer bleaching out over time. Funny, and true!
