Thanks! You can stand behind a 5" and see the projectile going down range, but not with a 3"....at least I couldn't. I figured the 5" was a lot slower than that, but 'yall got to be right!
I watched many a 3" go downrange, but I was first loader on the twin mount and in a perfect position to watch them. At three miles you could watch them all the way to the target.

5"-38 muzzle velocity is 2600 FPS
5"-54 muzzle velocity is 2700 FPS
That muzzle velocity will vary depending on the particular warhead fired. Some are heavier like the APHE and some lighter like the straight HE.
