New Hearing Aids

Well, the audiologist said the words, "profound" when discussing my recent hearing test. I'm now in possession of two very interesting hearing aids. They can be programmed with my phone! I can increase the volume, treble, bass, direction of focus all with the push of a button.
They work very well.
I've noticed, my wife talks really loudly. She needs to address that.

It's a source of great pride for me, that when my name is googled, one finds book titles and not mug shots. Daniel C. Chamberlain

Maybe you can program out that frequency!! My best friend just had cochlear implants, his hearing was so bad. Still has to wear hearing aids after it heals, in about a month, hope it fixes his problem! He was in the Army almost 37 years. His last seven years he trained FBI and DEA agents on how to conduct drug raids. The use of flash bangs during training caused all his hearing loss.
Glad the new aids are working for you!!

Mine are siemens, which are programmable as well but they need to be done by the audiologist. Mine also have a tinnitus mask programmed in since I have tinnitus for the last 15-18 years from same said loud military things. They work well but yeah, they make everything clearer, even background noise I don't necessarily want to hear.

Note: If a woman with a higher pitched voice is on my left and screaming at me, I can hear that pretty well with the left ear. The screaming usually happens after I 'ignored' her a few times! :roll2:

You need to get a right hand drive car............

I'd rather have my sister work in a whorehouse than own another Taurus!
My present ones are Phonak digitals. They were expensive but well worth it.
One thing I'm a firm believer in is going to a real hearing center that has doctors in on the evaluation and diagnosis process you go through before you actually buy the hearing aids. My mother went to NuSound for a few years and though they sell pretty much the same brands as all places, they don't give the service a hearing center does. And she paid more money for her hearing aids and got less quality service. She
My mother went to Nutone for many years and paid through the nose for hers. All these places have the same brands available or most of the same. But the service you get and the prices make the difference. Her last two sets she got from Nutone she paid like $4,500-$5,000 per set.
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.

Some are supposed to handle that; but, feedback I have gotten is they really can't handle the issue
quiet voices, then a loud voice,
All of a sudden an AV-8 comes over in landing pattern mode, anEA-6B takes off over the road, then have to take em out to go shoot
or work with power tools and such.
This includes feedback on the fancy ones from the VA.
I'd REALLY like to have a right hand drive Jeep. :drool2: They're good for road hunting, or so I'm told. :roll2: As to the wimmins, if I WANT to hear them then I turn to face them so my right ear kicks in and takes up the slack. If I DON'T want to hear them, then I give 'em my left side and just nod occasionally. It's better that way. Women like to talk, but don't like to listen, and it keeps me from making inappropriate remarks regarding what they said. Inappropriate remarks being that I am in disagreement. Women don't like that being in disagreement thing AT ALL! :silly:

Between hearing loss and severe tinnitus in both ears from shooting and 44 years around planes in general, jet engines, afterburners, etc............ wife's voice is at the same pitch as the cicadas chirping in both ears.....it is a great excuse!
For me its been 60+ years.

I went to such a system about 4 years ago, and it is superb. I'm on my second set, first was a phonac (sp) which worked great, down side was they used a pair of batteries per day.
New model is a Wydex, newer technology, batteries last about 6 days. They were not cheap, almost 2X what mh first ones cost.
Money well spent. Extended my career & make life better at home.

Also, I played drums in a rock band for five years. I had my hearing tested several years ago and the only issue I have is a slight whine in one ear! But that seems to go away when I leave the house!!:jester:
First rupture of left eardrum was in a decompression chamber at Key West Naval Station. Anus chapeau running the tests on about a dozen of us was an idiot; released pressure too fast and blew out a few eardrums among us. I was in the submarine sonar program, as were the rest of them in the chamber. Those that got eardrums blown out got blown out of the sub sonar program; that bad hearing in one ear is a non starter.
Second blowout of left eardrum was at the 3"-50 twin gun mount. I was 'policing up the brass' in front of the gun mount as it was high enough to the point of interfering with the gun mount traverse (swing L-R). We were in a cease fire while the target was repositioned (old WWII destroyer). My left side was on the outboard side toward the muzzles. Hearing protection OUT due to cease fire, but I had my 'pot' on my noggin. The order came down to resume fire, and the idiot gunners mate lit off both barrels whose muzzles were about 4 feet above my head and I was almost directly under them. Concussion knocked me to my knees, and I came back up with a 3" casing and threw it at him. Good thing he ducked; those things ain't light. Got a gnat ride to the carrier and they confirmed what I already knew; left eardrum ruptured AGAIN! Two weeks in carrier sick bay while my eardrum healed a bit, and being seasick due to that unequal inner ear thing from ruptured eardrum. And the 'nurses' were all buttugly! :tooth: Gunners mate that did it got 'counseled' by the GMG CPO and the Weps officer. :roll2:
Knew a bunch of 'cannon cockers' in the 1st/278th National Guard unit I was in. They were hard of hearing, too. :uhm:

Our twin mount ejected the case and it slid forward in front of the mount. Don't know who the mental midget was that came up with that idea. Those 3"50s WERE loud. I was loader on the right hand gun. Got the full effect of the muzzle blast from there. We had issue ear plugs but they were pretty much inadequate for the job.

Reuters, Dec 2020.
I did a lot of shooting at the same time.
Was shooting coating out of the kiln (about 10,000 rounds) and ended the ten hours of shooting deaf in my right ear.
It took a month before my hearing fully returned, I used duel hearing protection while shooting.
My hearing isn't terrible but do have some tone deafness.
The VA was nice enough to give me my hearing aids for the last 40 years. Every 4 years I get a new set better than the last. There have been lots of improvements over the years. My last set would have cost me over $4K each. They adjust for volume and can be adjusted for my Bluetooth devices.
I recently lost one do to an accident. When I told my audiologist she said there was no problem. They were under warrantee so they shipped me a new aid.
I'd be lost without them. I live in a very quiet world.
When I don't want to hear some idiot I just pretend my hearing aids aren't working. Keeps me out of arguments with the wife as well.
