Had a situation at my house this am...

Today I happened to be scheduled to work later than usual so as I was about to depart I hear a honk and some knocks at the basement door. Descending the stairs I see an individual at the basement door who is no one I recognize, I give him a " can I help you"? As I opened the door , he says " don't shoot I'm not a robber". Which I thought as an odd way to start a sales pitch. Apparently he had mistaken me putting my phone in a carrier at my right side as a firearm. I told him I was not interested in anything he was selling, to which he continued with his pitch and came closer to the door so I immediately told him " I need you to leave this property immediately." I guided him off my porch whereupon he hailed his ride and hopped aboard and they took off down the driveway. Now I'm PO'd , we live ten miles past city limits and if I'm a guy trying to drum up cleaning service customers this is definitely not the most efficient area to make new customers.
After they left , I got in my car and tried to catch up with them to no avail. While I was driving I called the sheriff and reported suspicious activity for our area and gave them the plate number, which was a temporary tag. Sorry for the wall of text, on my phone right now. We have never had trouble with thieves before, but never say never.

    We had the same kind of thing happen at our house in KS, Really takes a dolt to open a driveway gate and start looking around a house in the middle of nowhere in that country.
    Unfortunately he picked the wrong house....I was a Reserve Officer at the time and was aware of some guys who were poking around the county looking for stuff to steal. I had the wife call dispatch while I armed myself and went out to have a talk with the guy. He and his buddy both went to jail on outstanding warrants....

    Those of you who have attended the SE shoot know how far off the beaten path we are- - - - -even the Mormon missionaries seldom show up at our place! An uninvited visitor gets a friendly, but definitely guarded reception, as a few "hunters" and a tree-trimming crew for the electric company can testify. Mary can be downright persuasive with that .357 Blackhawk in her hand!

    A similar situation happened by westmoreland, the offender when the cops caught up with him had bullet holes in their windshield, which helps with identifying the visitors...

    Had a screen on the front door for years that supposed to be a UV resistant variety. A side benefit of it was that people standing on the outside of it could not see through it. Very unnerving, (I have been told), to have a seemingly dis-embodied voice coming from behind the scene. Had a couple sales people almost leave puddles when told, "Not interested!"

    Bought it years ago at Lowe's. Haven't been able to find it since. One of my neighbors tried for years to find it after I answered the door, (nicely), and she a,most left a puddle. UV blocking screen, never have been able to find it again. Mrs. Firefighter wanted a full length glass door to replace the screen door, so we no longer benefit from the screen.

    My mother had a fella do the 'foot in the door' trick once. It upset her pretty good. The guy was legit, insofar as He was actually selling what he said he was selling. That's not to say he couldn't have been a thug as well, just that he was actually employed as a salesman. I told her to keep a crowbar by the door (she's not a gun person) and use it to block/pry the door or to ram it through the dude's foot. Either way, the door is going to shut.
    "Bipartisan" usually means that a bigger than normal deception is happening.

    Yep, same at my house. That's why yo-yos like that dude would never think of doing that at our houses. I'm guessing they like their toes attached. :devil:
