Yes. That's what the peep sighted .458 Win Mag is for.
The Marlin would get a scope.
The Marlin with a Leupold 1.5-5 is a sweet package. Probably as good at bad breath distance as most dangerous game combos, if not as exotic. One thing I learned due to a case of weird base geometry on my .416 Rigby was that the 1.75-6 has A LOT less elevation than the 1.5-5. Not that it's likely to be a big issue on a brush gun like this, but the extra clicks can be helpful with rainbow rounds. (the 1.75-6 is now on a .30-30)
Sidebar: how do you like those Rossis? Obviously you still have them, but I have a hankerin' for a .357 levergun and have seen reviews online that are all over the place, so as a result I have no good idea how they are these days.
“A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.”
My .458 Win Mag is in a peep sighted Mauser action. So, I want the .45-70 to have a scope option. Therefore, not sure I'd go with the Cowboy model.
Sound reasoning. Go with the guide gun then. Change the crappy recoil pad, and load it to your preferred recoil level. My .450 guide gun is pretty abusive at factory/max level reloads. Load it down to old school 45/70 levels, it's a kitty cat

I love mine for what they are.
Handy, accurate, and functional.
While they hey may not have the fit/finish of a Winchester or earlier Marlin, they are nice for what I want. Besides, I think they look good as well.
I too have heard mixed reviews regarding the .357 Mag flavor. Sort of the reason I've not gotten one either.

Well, I already have the 4x Weaver pistol scope. It needs a home. So, I need the Marlin.

Self enable complete.... And now you're making me start to think. And that's the last thing I should be doing right now.
When chief got his Marlin CHEAP at Walmart, I checked every Walmart within 200 miles of here. No luck.
I've got Winchesters in 30-30 and 357 mag and a Marlin Golden 39A. Always wanted something on the upper end to round out the levergun lineup. Only reason I never thought much about the 45-70 is because I always wanted one in 454 Casull. Still do. But those guys got a little pricey. I like the whole handgun/lever gun shared cartridge thing. Which is why 454 Casull bumps 45-70 aside for me.

Thanks! I'd love to get a Winchester (Miroku) 1892 in .357, but they're well over twice the price. But they're very well made and beeyootiful.
We now return to our previously scheduled thread, already in progress.

Then you need the guide gun and a Magnum Research BFR in .45-70

Ha! That gets beyond my budget real quick. :bang:
Having been through the Smith Performance Center 460 mag and the Encore in 460, I'm done with that for now. The performance gains over the 454 don't overcome their tendency to beat the crap out of everything attached to them. For me, a stout 454 load does everything I need it to do.
The big loop is a great idea, but the full length magazine adds weight and not a lot of functionality. 4+1 is plenty in the 45-70. The 6+1 adds forward weight that is not really needed in my opinion. I do think it looks better. You still need a mount like XS System mount.
I like this model the 1895SBL, other than the longer forward tube it has everything, and is stainless.
Here, on my Guide Gun, I added the XS Rail. It really needs a big loop lever to be complete.

As apparent in my 16" Rossi .45 Colt levergun.
I have a tang sight (and now front globe) on my .24" Rossi in .45 Colt.
So, I really want to use the 4x Weaver on the Marlin, if I get one.
I get it. I have an old steel tube weaver marksman 4x waiting for its new Marlin......

Yes, you should get the marlin. Scope it and have a blast

Of course you need one! C'mon! Wake up! Go get it and post some pics!
Sharp! So when does it show up?
With Zee it would be more like a feral hog report.
