I agree, I've always used the 115gr Ballistic Tip and have never had a single problem as they are super accurate. But since I switched up to Berger's in other calibers I wanted to try them.... When we cut up that Cull's leg cleaning/Skinning him.....It fell off lolol :cool2:
I still use the Ballistic Tip in my .two 25s. I don't have a .25-06. I do have a .257 AI which is close. But it's in my little .250 Savage that they really shine. The little .250, mine ain't little having a 26" Barrel, really performs great with the BT. But most of what I shoot aren't plain Ballistic Tips. I've used 115 grain Combined Technologies in it almost since I built it. I'm not sure what the difference is, but the Moly doesn't hurt. However, the Moly used on CT is I think different from traditional Moly coated bullets. I'm not sure what form of moly is used on more traditional moly coated bullets but I do know that you have to shoot a few rounds through your bore to season it when using them. With the Combined Technologies bullets the POI doesn't change significantly from the first shots. Also, you gain some MV. They're great bullets, but so are regular Nosler BTs.

Lots of palmettos in these woods. Lots and lots of palmettos.
The only place around here I have seen with a lot of Palmeto is down in the Guadalupe River Bottom about 16 miles south west of me. I'm sure there are other places with Saw Palmetto, but not around here. Down there, there's also 14 foot gators and enough water Moccasins to scare a snake handler, and the whole area looks tropical. It's a wonder there are any deer there, but there's a lot. Hogs too. I think that Palmetto draws game. So why not make camo in a palmetto pattern? I mean the deer would walk up and nibble your coat.

Nice huntin', nice deer, and NICE pictures! I really like the sepia'ed versions. I'm glad you got your camera fixed, it no longer blocks out the faces... :roll2::jester:

These were taken with my phone. So, the images aren’t as sharp/clear. But, it’s just so much easier to only carry my phone as opposed to my big camera.

If you put the correct address on the payload it's amazing how well the diminutive .222, .223 and .22-250 kill a whitetail deer! However being a .25 caliber FANATIC I also use certain other rifles here in GEORGIA, because of the fact that the .25-06 is a small round that generally puts it's entire striking energy into the animal without a exit wound.
If things are perfect a high Heart/Lung shot is my preferred shot. But big bucks don't always let things be perfect, sometimes a Doe blasts across a gas or powerline and you just gotta get ready so you can judge the buck and shoot it before he clears 15 to 20 yards!! Then he exits said right of way into thick ass jungle swamp closely akin to something out of Vietnam!!
Shane-O here is color blind. I don't see blood, so using the .25's I have that ALL shoot in the .300's" in Montana on 300 pound deer or elk isn't even a concern to me cause you can watch every thing you shoot run until it expires if they're not DRT. But 50 yards off into a thick clearcut or GA Swamp without having or being able to see blood and you've lost an animal until you decide to retrieve help or a Dog.
Enter the fast .300 Win, WBY, Ultra & 8mm Magnums launching fast 180gr + Berger bullets and now if you hit the deer YOU WILL HAVE AN EXIT and in these thick ass woods that can determine "IF" you recover your deer or not.
Just saying...

Well hell's Bells, we have a couple things in common.Where I hunt, most of the brush is impenetrable and I also can't see blood cause like you I'm Color Blind as a Bat! I don't know blood from ice tea. So unless the deer is a tea todler I better kill it in the Sendero. When I say the brush is impenetrable, let me say, I AIN'T goin' there. It's a reptile infested hell hole of a briar patch. Even now in this cold we're currently having I won't go in there because everything in there sticks you. I went in about 10 yards after a hog I shot once, and when I came out, I looked like I'd been through a meat grinder. I went through about 100 yards of a lighter section of it looking for a big deer I shot at once and I could barely walk when I got out. It took me 2 hours to go that 100 yards. I probably walked right by that deer and never saw it. You need a hot rod cartridge that will give instant expansion or pushing a ton of bullet to kill deer along that sendero before it makes the brush line. How the deer and hogs go through that stuff is beyond me. Remember the story of "Brer Rabbit and the Briar Patch," like Brer Rabbit, they were born an' raised there. I wasn't.

This Grandfather/Father/Son trio hunted with us Friday and Saturday.
On Thursday evening, two other members of the hunting party hunted with us. They were using a .300 WSM and a .300 Weatherby. It started cold and windy Thursday afternoon. By an hour before dark, it was snowing so hard I couldn’t see 50 yards. That is only the second time I’ve ever hunted Texas in the snow.
We saw plenty of deer. Just nothing they wanted or could afford.
Seems that entire family has a preference for fast .30cals.
They asked my favorite cartridge and I said, while I was a 6.5 and 7mm fan, I’d probably done more with a .308 Win than anything else. They kind of scoffed at that. So, I took them outside the barn and pointed at the 1,600 yard target.
No takers.
:-)
The, "No Takers" part did not surprise me.
Great pics and write up
Indeed, and exactly why I asked where I'm gonna have to pay to shoot a whitetail one way or another
Dude, you don’t need to pay this much to just shoot a whitetail. Big bucks in Texas.........folks seem to be pretty proud of. Above my pay grade for what I consider reasonable, at least. But then, I ain’t feeding and expending the money to get them to that size. I just clean up the scraps and drool at the main course.

They call that Saw Cow mellow here. Cows eat it and quit mooing and get the munchies.

What's weird is that he can shoot so well with no eyes. But trust me, you don't want to see him eat.
