Shot this very nice 6 point this mornng
Picture to follow soon I hope. I shot this nice six point this morning at 9AM straight up. He was angling away with the right side toward me and I put the bullet high above the right shoulder, the bullet entering above the shoulder high close to the spine. It knocked him down immediately, breaking his spine. I might have ruined about three inches of the right side of back strap, but that's all. The 130 grain(edited) SGK went in, hit the spine and tore a section about two inches of it out, and he fell dead upon the spot. My son in law has pics of the inside damage and will email to me.
This is the biggest 6 point I've ever seen around here. Here they have to be 13 inches inside the beams and he's legal and then some. We measured him almost 14" Wide inside the main beam. He was like 13 3/4". We caped him out back behind his front shoulders for a mount. It will go good with my old 8 point I killed Thanksgiving week, 1979 out at Junction Texas. I've killed a lot of deer through the years but mostly doe and spikes. This is only the third nice buck I've killed. Back before the minimum size limits I had killed some 4,6, and 8 pointers but as of today, only 3 of those bucks I've killed would be legal by today's standards, other than the spikes, of course.

Nice deer indeed!
Thank you my brother. Anyway, that's my first deer in 2 years. Before the shot I was very worried he wasn't big enough. But When he turned the back of his head my way he looked huge. So I took him.
He hit the ground the instant the bullet hit him. And that's a good thing because he was facing about 100 acres of solid thick brush. It was about a 60 yard shot.

Now wait a minute cpj, you can't be bad mouthing your Bum Rifle...
Seriously, you gotta hit em where they're down for the count. I've learned the hard way out there to take neck and spine shots if possible to put em down fast. He was maybe ten feet from a brush line and the brush runs about 60 yards down toward the creek and if they can get in that brush and make it to the creek they can swim to safety and die on posted land. Formosa Plastics owns that land just across the creek. They have a huge Chemical plant at Point Comfort about 8 miles down the road toward Port Lavaca from my lease. They own about 10,000 Acres starting on the other side of the creek from us. It's a Zoo over there. Lots of big trophy bucks over there because it hasn't been hunted in 20 years. Before Formosa bought it in the 90s it was owned by Prudential Insurance. Before that it belonged to Bill Bauer, who I used to work for. That's one reason we have some big deer on the place. That and the guy I sublease from, and his father before him have managed that place pretty strictly for 50 years.

Sounds like a good lease.
A creek won't contain bucks that want to stretch their legs. Get a bigger wall.

Yes, but they currently lie in my son in law's phone and he's been too busy with Christmas stuff to take time to send them to me.

But, 130 grains = 270? No way, Jose! :jester:

I'm going to take the 7 Mag out and see if I can blood it. It's still bloodless.

Here's the gore pics. If you look at it on the right side on the pic of the outside you can see the entry wound. On the inside you can see where it penetrated and wrecked the spine. The bullet did just what I was hoping it would do. It destroyed the spine in a small area and put the deer down for the count taking out about 2" of the spine.
