  I'd rather they raised it to 30. That would expand the possibility that more voters will have moved out of the nest and experienced a little bit of real life. It's been years since I've had a conversation with a 25 year old who had the first clue about how this country came to be. All a 16 year old cares about is running with the herd, and the herd gets its information from anonymous text messages, these days.

  The country is done at that point. If 18ers want to take our guns and limit free speech, I can't imagine 16ers doing anything more intelligent. *uckerberg wants people to be able to vote on the internet and I'm sure THAT would be safe from fraud and hacking.

  I'm all for this and while we're at it, I'd like to see the drinking age raised to 30 also. Living in a tourist area, I can't believe some of the incredibly stupid stuff some of twentysomething year olds do around here when drinking. I know that I did some dumb stuff but some of the young people around here take the cake.

  You could make a stronger argument that we should take away votes from people say above retirement age or at least over say 80? On average at a certain age mental faculties tend to decline and definitely understanding of the world as it is and not how it was does. Also people who are going to be dead soon are making long term decisions for people who have 6 or 7 decades left to live and no say seems slightly unfair.
  

  You're equating 5% the minds of a maybe little forgetful 80 YO'ss with 95% irrational and stupid decisions of a 16 YO? How about not pulling ideas out of your ass for a change. I guess you aren't really committed to keeping the 2A alive much longer if you're advocating 16 YO's should vote, and 80 YO's should not. Sometimes I think you argue against something just for the sake of being argumentative.

  At sixteen,  The  OVERWHELMINGLY VAST majority do not, in fact, pay taxes. Whatever is deducted from their paycheck is returned come refund time.  Since there is no intelligence requirement to exercise the right to vote, the "no dumber than" argument is moot. Further, I would think job status would be antithetical to your beliefs as a Democrat. 

  "Bipartisan" usually means that a bigger than normal deception is happening.

  The high school kids don't think they're mature enough to buy a rifle or shotgun at 18, and want the law changed to 21 to buy ANY firearm. But they think they're mature enough to vote? Really? They can't even follow the law about no texting while driving and regularly kill/maim themselves and others doing so. They PROVE BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT that they are too immature to do adult things, and should not be allowed to do them until they are at least 21 y.o. They want to have their cake and eat it, too. Too bad, so sad. Life isn't fair. Make driving, voting, and firearms purchase all 21 years old, just like buying alcohol. That 21 years old to buy alcohol is also working SOOOOOOOO well!

  I look at this proposal this way: 
  
  First, I recognize this is going nowhere.  Ain't gonna happen, so there's no use getting my underwear in a twist over all the new voters that will be "added to the lib's" roster.(insert eyeroll here) 
  
  Secondly, - and this is merely for fun, since the first point negates everything that comes after - I ask myself "What problem does this solve?"  The answer, of course, is none.  As minors, they are already represented both by parents/guardians and by the state.  There are attorneys who spend their entire career representing minors.  There are a multitude of advocacy groups who's sole purpose is to represent minors.  Kids don't lack for representation. 
  
  Third, I ask myself "What problems could this cause?  This one is pretty simple too.  Lots.  Obviously, we've ALL been teenagers here...some less recently than others, but we've all been there.  I would wager a serious pile of cash that NONE of us would say that he/she was as rational and well reasoned at sixteen as they were at thirty, twenty five, twenty... and yes, even eighteen.  There's a reason kids that age are described as "squirrelly" and it ain't for their bushy tails.  As far as a reliable liberal vote, that would only last for as long as the thought was in their head that you didn't want them to vote that way... as soon as it appeared that you WANT a liberal vote, they'd switch sides quicker than Trump before an election.

  Yeah, when I think back on life as a teenager, it seems like 16-18 was the crucial time that you had to get past before you could be a man. Of course, it was a lot simpler then - get your driver's license and get a job, then buy a hot rod on credit, get laid, get drunk, But...do all of this without embarrassing your family - that was always the hard part. The ones who managed it usually became decent adults, if they lived, by the time they were 21. Sure, you were still a little bit 'corrupt,' but nothing that a wife and kids wouldn't cure, for the most part.
