Did some scope swapping and removed the 4.5-14x Leupold from my .223 Contender Pistol barrel.  Replacing it with the 2-7x Vortex Scout Scope and Nikon base.

Sighted it in yeaterday at 100 yards with 77gr Mark 262 Mod 1 Ammo (77gr SMK).

Today, I let The Boy shoot it for the first time.

He fired 5 rounds at 100 yards.

Not bad for his first time shooting the gun. I think this will be our practice gun for the upcoming season.

The .308 Win SP is off at my friend’s getting threaded for a brake.  I have a reduced load worked up for it that I intend to use for the boy. If not, I have an 80gr A-Max loaf for the .223 Contender that I know kills deer as I took one with it at 140 yards a few years ago. If the .308 isn’t ready or I feel the boy isn’t ready, I’ve no problem letting him use the 80gr A-Max from this Pistol.

    Only time will tell.

What's involved in putting together one of those? I suspect you did more than buy the Contender and add a brake.

It’s a Contender frame and a custom barrel I ordered to my specs from Match Grade Machine.

    13”
    1-7” Twist
    Bull Barrel w/ 1/2-28” thread
My friend timed the brake to the barrel after the fact.

Thats a really nice looking pistol.

Not bad? You have a very good handle on understatement.

Nice shooting, but he doesn’t look too excited about it. Kind of a blank stare.

I vote for the 80 grain Amax....
Ain’t no question they will work. We will see if the .308 is ready.

Either way, I want him to take one with a SP this year.

    Very nice pistol!

But I am desperate to see more pics of the heavy .243 rifle. It's been a while. I am still planning to build something similar one day. When the cards align.

I have only killed one deer with that rifle. It might be feeling lonely.

He's not going to have any issues killing a deer with that 80 gr. load if he continues to shoot like that.  Excellent group.
Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.
