How you know when a season isn't open
Saturday the son and I went scouting for elk. We were on the forestry road for maybe ten minutes and we spot a few cows about fifty yards in front of the truck, standing in the middle of the road. I inch towards them to get a closer look and lo and behold there's the biggest bull I've ever seen in person standing broadside about 50 feet from the road. He stood there for a couple minutes while we stared slack-jawed. He slowly walked off with the cows.
My son says, "Take a good look. We'll never see him again."

When our governing officials dismiss due process as mere semantics, when they exercise powers they don’t have and ignore duties they actually bear, and when we let them get away with it, we have ceased to be our own rulers.

and smarter elk.

Almost in town. He was in the 180 range. Saw him first thing in the morning while I was driving to school. Below the road is all swampy.
Bonus points if you can tell me what the round remains right above the road used to be.......

The largest bull elk I think I've ever seen, certainly the largest I've seen while I was hunting, was when I had a cow tag. And, he was on private property owned by a friend of mine. He was with another large bull. He made the one in my avatar look like a pup.

The biggest bucks I have ever seen were spotted DURING the season, and unfailingly while driving past PRIVATE land. . . on which they were totally relaxed and unconcerned. Whenever our GPS said we were entering public, we saw NOTHING.
