Blackbuck Euro Mount

Took a yellow phase Blackbuck Antelope back during the summer with a .308 Win and reduced load running 110gr Varmageddon bullets. 



Got my Euro Mount back yesterday.

    Exactly. 

    And a heck of a lot cheaper. I do my own with hard antlered animals. But, something like a Blackbuck or Pronghorn that has horns of hair......I defer to professionals.

    Looks great!

    Agreed on the cost.  When I had my bull done it was near $600 for a mount vs I think $150 for a euro

    I haven’t gotten a shoulder mount in 20 years. 

    Everything has been Euro since and I’m quite pleased. You can pile a lot more Euro Mounts into a small area. Like a mantle, bookshelf, or on top of a wardrobe.

    Beautiful mount.  Does she use beetles or traditional cleaning?

    Ive never had a shoulder done,  likely won't.  Just too much money.  I look at people with houses full of mounts and all I can think is, how many more hunts could you have done with all that money?

    I have one shoulder mount.  I killed a rather large for the area I was huntng shoulder mount in my house. I killed it the week of Thanksgiving, 1979. that cost me $100. But that was done by an old retired Carbide Maintenance forman who did a lot of work as a hobby. A lot of people will tell you he did really good professional grade work for a lot less money than it should have gone for. After almost 40 years it still looks good.

    And most beautiful of all it doesn't take $500. That's what I'm going to do with the six point white tail I killed last year. I've had it in the freezer since last December. I caped it out thinking I was going to have a shoulder mount done but after pricing it, decided to go the euro route. I decided I'd rather spend that extra money on scopes.

    My Son in Law's brother is going to do his own Euro Mount. He says what he will do is put the head on a fire ant bed and cover it with a big deep plastic wash tub and leave it a week or so. He claims one of his buddies did it and the ants had it cleaned to the bone in a week. Then you just have to boil it.

    I've never done one of these before and I forgot to ask him but what do you do with the skull then? Do you need to coat it with lacquer or something?

    On deer, I skin the head, remove the eyes, lower jaw, and excess meat. Then, boil it in a pot with a turkey fryer. 

    Scrape and done.

    A buddy of mine adds hydrogen peroxide. I have not tried that yet.
