Incentive to drive those extra miles

I used to hunt a gene pool in a town about 40 minutes away.
All my real big ones came from there. I started going back the tail end of last years season.
Played with a big boy once he won. He had time on his side. I've Been there several times this year. Same big guy is there but conditions weren't right to pressure him.

Oh well a lot of junk talk.

This was what the pool can produce.
This one was taken nearby earlier this year.

    I'm not seeing conditions right in the extended forcast for my bruiser. I will be putting up a stand there this winter though.
    I used to bow hunt a lot there and saw 3 different wallhangers once all in one day. One had a drop tine too. A real rarity here.
    I missed him that day trying to see the arrow hit.

    A shed the coyotes helped me find in the area I'm hunting. Can't really seem to show it's mass but tried anyway.

    That big boy has been through the battles. I had the opportunity, for one year, to hunt on 1100 acres that had naturally bucks of similar qualities, in their natural state. Texas bucks don't usually get that big, or have such racks, in their natural setting, but there are some nice ones, still.

    I have never been very impressed, since, by lesser bucks. I'll shoot any of them for the meat, but even a 'meat hunter' gets excited by one like that. I hope you have many fulfilling hours ahead, of competing with your personal 'big boy.' May the best 'woodsman' win.

    Thanks Bisley..... I'm pretty sure he will win this year.
    I'll just enjoy the game.
    Next year......I have high hopes but then again I always do.

    I spent all yesterday chasing snow bunnies or he was giving me the peace sign.....lol



    Actually had him in a field with a doe and couldn't shoot.
    Tomorrow morning is game on again.

    Around here, not 15 mles as the crow flies from where I'm sitting there are deer like that. My buddy killed one in the fall of 1965 on a boy scout hunt. It was on the Welder Ranch at Bloomington Tx. just up the road from here. The difference between those deer and deer across the fence, that place hadn't been huntied in 30 years. If they're allowed to get old enough they will usually get big. It's owned by the Welder family and it's posted most of the time. They opened it up in 1965 to the boy scouts. The scouts got to hunt it for 3 or 4 years until some of the parents decided to sneak in a little hunting of their own. That killed it so they shut down hunting again.

    Bit of an update to this.
    That deer was taken on the land I'm hunting.
    Not close...... not just in the same town.
    The exact place.


    Got permission today to throw a ladder stand in there too.

    High hopes for next year.

    Saw plenty there this year but I'm terrible at telling if they have antlers

    That’s an extremely promising arrangement.  One of the does running around that place may be carrying one of that buck’s heirs right now.  Hope you bag one of those monsters sooner rather than later.

    I'm pretty stoked Louis.....that place has the genetics well distributed.

    His brother would be cool.


    The guy in the picture was after that one for 3 years I found out.

    The last day of the season I put some dominant buck pee on my friend one came in near him and trashed a large area just out of his sight.

     I will also be up there after it snows this year. Picking trees travel routes maybe find a shed or take out a yote or two.
