    For big game hunting, I prefer the lower range variable scopes.  For me, 3x9 is as big as I want to go.  I have several, a 2x8 and one old Japanese made Lyman 1.75x5.  If I need more than that, they're too darn far away for me to hit anyway.

    What's really something is how inexpensive the finely machined reciever sights made by Redfield and Lyman sold for in comparison to the scopes. Those sights are highly valued treasures today.
