  Nobody does. I said early last year that Venezuela would collapse before the end of the year. Looks like l missed by a month or two. If Maduro doesn't relinquish power there will either be a civil war or a military junta. Neither one is a good option.

  
  

  All of our embassy people have been given the order to leave by Maduro. That's a good sign that stuff is about to get real down there. And there may be a new player in the game as Maduro has been courting Russia big time the last couple of months. China is already in South America big time, and now Russia is muscling in. I can't see anything but nasty times.

  The US is not pulling our diplomats.  They say Maduro isn't qualified to call for the withdrawal of embassy.

  The military and police are still obeying Maduro. We really don't need another repeat of the U.S. Embassy in Iran, but instigated by Maduro using the military and police instead of the people to do it.

  I read earlier the military is supporting Maduro. If true, it can get ugly. Benghazi ugly.  

  When our governing officials dismiss due process as mere semantics, when they exercise powers they don’t have and ignore duties they actually bear, and when we let them get away with it, we have ceased to be our own rulers.

  Neither Obama nor Carter is president this time- - - -there's probably a few Cruise missiles with Maduro's coordinates dialed into it 24/7.  "Go ahead- - - -make my day" by doing anything to our embassy people!

  You'd be surprised the amount of pressure L.A. people can suffer before busting, specially if the oppressors are left-wing crooks disguised as politicians with a "social justice" rethoric and the support of an ultra-corrupt military, who are the real power brokers in these situations.
  
  Maybe I'm finally wrong, but based in my experience, they're going to keep grabbing power for a while, specially considering the support they're getting from China & Russia (Mere commercial interests), the fact that although in apparently poor condition, they literally have a money printing machine with the oil industry, the political backup of the Cuban secret service and that around 4 million of their citizens (Most of them from the productive sectors of society) have already fled abroad to take mostrly derelict jobs so they can send money home to support their literally starving relatives still trapped in that "socialist paradise". That way they have less people complaining and eager to revolt, more dependants from the government's aid and an additional flux of hard currency.
  
  Worst the US can do is take direct actions against them, since that gives the gang in power even more justifications to harden their "revolutionary anti-imperialist quest". Just close their oil businesses in the States and let them rot.
  Luckily it'll finally implode and Maduro and his gang will end up like "Mr. man-dresses" Khadaffi, unless he bails out to Cuba before he's caught, but sadly blood will be spilled since the military click won't be giving up their privileges or face justice pacefully.
  
  Such's life in the tropics.....been there, and might "enjoy" the beginning of another socialist dream in a couple of years or so.

  Antonio, thanks for that perspective. Venezuela is a beautiful country rich in resources and beautiful scenery. Like so many places, it lacks a government that can take care of the people and the country. Happens to countries all over the world, too. Venezuela is just the country in flux now with the leader refusing to do what the government says, and retaining power.
  

  
  

  You're right about the military and police not wanting to relinquish any power after their treatment of the people. A lot of them would go to prison if brought to trial. Assuming they made it to trial.
