  Even the old C9 looks better than a Glock, albeit "not by much". Still, I wonder if the new model will repeat the limited edition of 200 pistols with the coveted $100 bill finish!

  I dunno, I've seen some other models from well established makers that are just as bad, only the are well made and more expensive.

  No. At least glock doesn’t have a slide that’s 3” tall.

  Don't knock 'em until you've tried 'em!

  Its surprisingly good. It isn't a Glock/Ruger/M&P/Walther/CZ/whatever, but for what it is, it ain't bad and they're generally tack drivers. And I still think they look better than a Glock - but that's me, $100 bill finish not withstanding. There is that whole "dial it in" procedure, but whatcha expect for the money? Once dialed in, they tend to be very reliable - mine has been, at least thus far.
  

  I bought mine on a lark, and to get a rise outta CPJ - but its kinda cool in its own way. Again, it isn't my CZ-75 - but its fun and it makes a good "shelf gun".

  If ya got an extra $200 laying around, try one - you don't have to tell anybody!   Do they still have a zinc bbl? I may be wrong but I believe I recall reading that some of them went kaboom because of crappy material (namely zinc) that the bbl was made out of. If it’s ugly but safe, I’m all for it since I do know they are reliable.

  The slide and frame are made of ZAMAK...a zinc alloy....the barrels were, and hopefully are steel

  The guy on the right calls the CZ-75 and the 1911 overrated but THAT gives him a chubby? Umm...no. It looks like at least it will chafe less when you shoot it. For 200 there are a few better choices.

  Yep, the bbl is steel, the slide is ZAMAC, the lower is polymer as are the sights. The weak point of the gun isn't the gun, its the magazine, but once you know how to deal with a new mag, all's well. The basic problem is they use the same mag for both 9mm and .380 and you gotta do a bit of adjustment to the feed lips (when used with a 9mm pistol) as well as keeping a new mag loaded for several weeks to "condition" the spring. Apparently their .45 and their .380 don't have these problems. Field stripping and oiling the pistol helped a lot too in my case.

  It was a fun learning experience - heck, maybe I'll buy one of the new ones too after they've been out for awhile.  I'm going to guess that the mag problem isn't going to translate to the new pistol.

  IMO Hi-Point knows their target audience perfectly: People who actually can't afford a better gun, people who buy the gun ironically out of spite, and people with $150-$200 burning a hole in their pocket with nothing better to do. 
  
  I see the majority of this new variation ending up topped off with NCStar, BSA, or other cheap optics just because, and I think Hi Point realizes that. 
  
  Duty grade they are not, but they fill their niche well.

  They also tend to be extremely popular among that segment of the population that can't legally own firearms...seems every dirt bag out there has a Hi Point tucked in his pants... well, that may be an exaggeration...but there are still a lot of them out there..,

  But that doesn't contradict the fact that they go bang when the trigger is pulled and usually hit what they're pointed at. My next door neighbor has 2 of them (plain black ones).

  When I think of Hi-points, I think of old, scared ladies on fixed income living in fear.  Of course, that's not the primary market, but I believe in the right of self defense and know old widows who own them.  Hickok45 did a video on them, they're heavy, hard to use, but in his video, pretty reliable.  Just ugly.  But a 75 YOA woman who's on welfare isn't interested in looks and for her, it's a cheap insurance policy that she'll probably never use.

  My wife actually likes the C9 - and she pretty much doesn't like (semi-) automatics of any type, she's a revolver gal. But she shoots it every time we go to the range, I think its the combination of the polymer frame and the heavy slide mitigates recoil - and she isn't particularly recoil shy. We were talking about it just last nite - I told her she'd probably be talking a different tune if she ran a couple of hundred rounds through it, the weight would most likely tire her out.

  I've heard of problems with hollowpoints, I haven't seen any as yet. But that's MY gun. Maybe the finagling with the magazine fixed it, I dunno. I need to weigh it and my Lahti - I suspect the Lahti is even heavier, but certainly more "refined"!

  I admit to being a little puzzled as to why Hi Point would see a need to market something like this - if you've got decent knowledge of accessories, the money to buy them and the ammo and range time to zero them, and the literacy required to comprehend the instructions telling you how to do that. . .  you're going to buy something else.  Sure, you've got the rare eccentric like Zorba with a fetish for such things, but half a dozen guys is not exactly a "market segment".  A threaded muzzle on a $200 pistol that's going to cost the owner a $200 ATF tax to legally utilize with an accessory that likely costs well more than that?  Unless they're trying to generate a pro-2nd Amendment following among the housing projects by illustrating that the National Firearms Act of 1934 and its following additions and amendments are hugely income-discriminatory, I doubt we'll see many legitimate suppressors screwed onto these.
  
  I've also got to wonder about the reliability of a made-for-three-bucks double stack mag.  Hopefully they have the good sense to emulate Tokarev & put the feed lips on the frame of the pistol.
  
  This seems a little like an extremist political candidate trying to expand their base toward the middle.  They may well alienate their original base in the effort and fail to gain the extra votes they were after.
