Lindsey Graham, Republicans, and Red Flag laws

Ol' Lindsey has done turned on us big time by siding with the Democrats on this legislation. Getting pretty bad when the Republicans side with the Democrat Socialists to wipe their collective butts on both the Constitution and rule of law. Here's a short part of the much longer article.

s gun confiscation coming to Congress?

The 2018 midterm elections produced a split Congress with Democrats gaining control of the House and Republicans gaining seats in the Senate.

The chattering DC classes are already speculating about the Democrats' plans to subpoena Trump’s tax records and Senate Republicans’ moves to consolidate their hold of the federal judiciary. But amid the DC gossip, a new threat is being overlooked—red flag gun confiscation orders.

The Guardian detailed House Democrats’ desire to pass gun control legislation in the upcoming Congress:

Ted Deutch, a Democratic congressman from Florida who represents Parkland, where a February school shooting left 17 dead, said this week that he expected House Democrats to focus on bills with more bipartisan support. Those measures included bump stock bans and “extreme risk protection orders”, also known as red flag laws, which give law enforcement and family members a way to petition a court to temporarily bar an unstable person from buying or owning guns.

With the cries for gun control growing stronger, the federal government may finally give in to public pressure to “do something.” Red flag laws might just be the “come together” moment establishment politicians have been looking for.

Lindsay Graham has been struggling mightily to find his niche in the Republican Party, since the passing of his mentor, John McCain. Recently, he has made some large strides in his quest to become the 'elder statesman' of the Republican Party. This is a 'misstep' in that quest. It is a 'John McCain type' political move, and if he wants to maintain the relevance he has gained since McCain's death, he would be wise to figure out when to shut up.

Old habits are hard to break.

One must point out this means a person will have his guns taken away from him without due process.

Even if the charges are bogus and the person gets the guns back he will have the mark of cain on him for the rest of his life which will also hurt the person in the job market

I think that the clear denial of due process of law is the crux of contention with these laws.

The notion of necessity to save lives is paramount to the justification of tyranny.

I can see no avenue for compromise on this.

This 'guilty until proven innocent' thing is a new attack from the Left on firearms ownership. They are going at it from several different fronts. I recently bought a new firearm, and the Form 4473 has a question asking if one is a veteran that suffers from PTSD. That can now be used as a disqualifying thing for firearms ownership, or so it would appear.

The 'guilty until proven innocent' thing has cropped up in the recent selection of a SCOTUS judge, also. The Left just lets the accusations fly like throwing jello at a wall and see what, if anything sticks. And the two year 'bug hunt' by Mueller is another example. And there are many, many more examples if one can stomach watching the news.
