Lying to Pollsters - Which Party is more afraid of it?

I don't post a lot of links, lately, because it is nearly impossible to determine whether some of the more subtle purveyors of propaganda are 'shooting straight.' But this particular one agrees with a lot of what I have been thinking, for a long time, and it is much easier to post a link than it is to give a personal opinion and then try to back it up with your own logical argument, so I'm using it.

Read it and rip it, if it suits you.

    I don’t know that I agree with the conclusions in the article.  Trump supporters are usually proud of that fact.
    Apparently free thought is punished, and conformity is required, while peckerless cowards run the show.

    The voting polls are obviously the last word. I don't hardly pay any attention to any other polls.

    I think you are rationalizing, after the fact, as Alinski suggested that a good community organizer should do. You seem to still be assuming your conclusions at the beginning of a discussion, and purposefully omitting or diluting the exculpatory evidence that might weaken the assumed conclusion. Have you ever tried gathering all of the evidence, first, and then coming to a conclusion?

    I, for one, freely admit that I don't really know exactly where the majority of the electorate is at, given a choice between rolling back the establishment, or following it into socialistic oblivion. I think the most likely probability is that the polar bases of each party are as strong as ever, but the 'lukewarms' and 'undecideds' can turn on a dime, based on what kind of news is reported, and whether that 'news' holds up, over time.

    I also think that, being undecided, most folks will hold back on stating an opinion, for fear of being dead wrong, or of being chastized by the true believers.

    I don't know about "embarrassment" so much as just common sense.  Conservatives will walk past a Prius with a Bernie sticker, while liberals will slash the tires and burn an F150 with a Trump sticker.

    I think there's also a lot of frustration with the fact that you can no longer discuss matters of race without the left branding you a racist; discuss matters of sexual orientation without being branded a homophobe, etc...  Knowing that they'll get that reaction from leftist radicals, many in support of Trump may just decide it's better to simply not get into a battle of wits with unarmed people.

    Trump is a classic case of "Don't have to like him to like what he does".

    And then there's also the camp of "Might not like Trump but REALLY didn't like Hillary"

    I don't trumpet my support of Trump publicly, because I no more want to get in a discussion with a Trump true believer than I do with a lefty true believer. I hang up on pollsters, NRA calls, and telemarketers, as soon as I hear the pause or the background noise, or I may not even pick up the phone if I don't recognize the area code. I suspect this is a common denominator for most folks my age, because they probably get 15 BS calls every day.

    So, if I am representative of any common profile group, it is a group that will never be represented properly by any poll. Knowing how telemarketers target retirees, I doubt that very many of them ever get polled, for the same reason...but most of them do vote, judging by the age of the people I see queuing up. That doesn't matter much in Texas, because it is still dark red, for now. But in hotly contested areas of PA, MI, OH, WI, and a few others, it could have an effect on the outcome, if combined with other profile groups who may not be well represented by polling.

    The "Trump-shy" voter kind of goes against the very informal "Trump-sign" phenomenon that was noted here on this forum in 2016-- many people noted that there were a ton more Trump yard signs out than Clinton. It happened where I live too-- and my district is blue as blue gets. If they were so ashamed of Trump, I doubt they would lie to pollsters while placing a Trump sign directly in front of their homes-- where it becomes stupid obvious that the resident is a Trump supporter.

    The polls are fairly accurate. Ignore them if you choose. I didn't seem to recall any polls that said Clinton had a 100% chance of winning. She was a bad candidate, took the rust belt for granted, and paid the price. Trump wisely pursued those states and won because of her arrogance-- let that be a lesson for so called "conservatives" and gun owners.

    Much is known about who the 'Trump sign' voters are, because they stand up to be counted, including the fact that they do not represent the entirety of Trump voters. Practically nothing is known about who the 'Trump-shy' voters are, because they may not be proud of how they voted, or maybe just because they are people who make logical decisions every day of their lives, and consider their voting privilege to be nobody else's business.

    A 'Trump-shy' voter can be anybody who is sick of political correctness, or of 'Chicken Little' carnival hawkers inciting aging children, by collectively screeching that "the sky is falling." It can be anyone who is scratching their head over a candidate's demand that the USA must ban all fossil fuels, when our economic competitors are producing and releasing many times more dangerous emissions, and one volcanic eruption can cancel out a year's worth of government regulated emissions control. Or, a Trump-shy voter might simply be pissed off at career politicians, in general, and wants a president who will ridicule them at every opportunity, with his own circus antics.

    I could go on and on, but you have already succeeded in making me defend Donald Trump, so it was a successful troll.
