Thanks for all the prayers

I wanted to share with all of you that my most recent biopsy results are negative, meaning that I am in remission from the cancers. I will still have frequent follow-ups to ensure I stay okay but all indications are positive right now and that's good enough for me. I deeply appreciate the concern and kindness shown by many of you here. It has been a long road to travel but with great doctors and great friends, I can see success.

Now, I gotta get back to regular range time. Still have to figure out that No. 1 in 6.5 Swede.

Forgot to add the caption - Ruger No. 1 RSI in 6.5 Swede. I only fired ten test rounds before I got sick - 140 Gr. Nosler RDFs over 44.5 gr RL22. That produced two five-round groups averaging 1.5" I have some 120 grain Sierras that I'm going to try, too. I don't expect all that much better from the rifle but I'll play around with it anyway. Thanks again, everybody. It's good to feel good again.

Good to hear that you're in remission, and hope it stays that way, too!

You might want to try that forearm hanger modification on that #1; it's an easy modification, and has helped a lot of #1 rifles shoot tighter groups. Here's a link to a company that carries them that I trust. The piece has been around for 35+ years and has seemed to do well.

Hi Ken, it’s Wambli under a new user name. Very happy to see you back and doing well.

With No 1s I usually only care where the first two shots land and usually they will group well and anything after that when the barrel heats up goes to hell. Never really saw the need for 3 or 5 shot groups from these guns. Can’t think of an instance I’d need 5 fast shots in a row from a single shot rifle. This saves me from a LOT of frustration and aggravation.

I have a Ruger #1 with heavy varmint barrel in .223 that benefited greatly from that Hicks accurizer installation back about 30 years ago. That big mainspring that attaches to the barrel via the forearm hanger throws some serious harmonic 'BOINNNNNNNGGGGG!' into the equation every time you fire a shot. Cold bore shots never hit the same place on the target until I installed the Hicks device. It shoots a LOT more accurately now. And that's with a heavy barrel that doesn't heat up that quickly. 'Worth a shot' as they say; couldn't hurt to try it out.

Oh I agree and certainly for a heavy barreled gun. My old .257 Rob and .458 WM #1s sent the first two shots to POA basically touching from a cold bore. Then it was a guess where we were headed from there, so I decided to stop torturing myself 🤣

Thanks for that suggestion - I've never heard of that piece before and I might give it a try. The "minor inletting" required makes me nervous from a gunsmith but sounds worth the try.

Hey Wambli - good to hear from you again. Your comment reminded me of when I took my No. 1 (model 1B) 30-06 deer hunting about 10 years ago at a restricted area on the USAF Academy. A "safety escort" is required for the hunt and the escort inspects your rifle and ammo. He looked at the rifle and only said "nice rifle" and then asked for my ammo. I showed him the 3 rounds I had and asked where the rest was. When I told him that's all I brought, he laughed and said most hunters bring a whole box. I told him I thought I might need a spare but didn't see any need for more than two. End of the day: one dead muley and one round left for next time. A good hunt.
