Didn't intend to buy another 1.....

Walked in to the lgs this morning since the beauty shop next door was closed. The owner pulled out a plastic Ruger box. Inside was a 50th anniversary Single Six Convertible w/mag cylinder, 4 5/8 barrel . It has adjustable sights. $315 otd with the ammo.

I thought it was just too good a deal to pass up. I've got an old model Super Single Six so now each son will get 1 each someday.

    Thanks

I've been waiting to see if I could find a Security Six or possibly a 1911. But, I just couldn't turn this 1 down

I had one like that many years ago and traded it off. I wish I still had it. I am sure your boys will be happy with it.

At that price I would have bought it too!  Great score!

    Hey I remember those!!! 😁

I’ve owned 3 of those with the longer barrel and I’ve always wanted a 4.6” barreled one.  Don’t know why I have not made that happen.  My last one, a beautiful customized 6.5” stainless with NICE stag grips belongs to my son now.

I made the same comment about the felt bag. There also isn t a molded place for the extra cylinder either. I bet the original owner lost the bag if it had one. The store owner says he has a mag. cylinder in the bag. Someone gave him the gun box and cylinder. Said the gun had been stolen so he didn't need it anymore.

The store owner called Ruger about having it fitted for another gun and was quoted a price of $200 so he hasn't done anything with it.

    Hope to shoot it tomorrow.

    Thanks for the comments!

Find some .22 WRF ammo for the mag cylinder.  You can thank me later.

They are all over on eBay.  BTW fitting a cylinder is NOT a tough job at all.  Most of them drop right in anyway.

I bought a box when I bought the gun.  Hope to shoot it tomorrow.

My shoots WMRs better. BTW I have both a Single Six and a Security Six I really like both. I have a western holster for the Single Six and a vintage cop holster for the Security Six. just plain fun at the range!

Shot it today. I'll post targets later. Believe it or not LR shot better than the mags. All I had in mags were Hornady 30 gr V-max. I'll get something different next time in Academy or Walmart.  Was shooting offhand at about.12 paces. Hopefully can try a rest before too long

Mine likes CCI Maxi Mags very well, but most wmr shoots well in mine

Based on what others have said I expected more from the magnum cylinder, and was surprised at how well the LR cylinder did. But, this was just a quick trip to see if it shot. Will try other ammo and see what happens .

Did you get to try some WRF ammo?  It’s not WMR...

The lgs only had WMR: Critical Defense or the V-Max(mag?).

I don't believe that is a 50th Anniversary? They didn't have adjustable sights and the medallion on the grips should have a red background. Does it have the gold rolled mark on top of the barrel?

I bought one for my dad in 2003, and he just gave it back to me last month. There wasn't any felt bags with this one. The WMR cylinder was wrapped in bubble wrap.

No it's not marked. The store owner said it was based on the box.  I really didn't think it was an anniversary model since the gun isn't marked as such.

And now that I think about it the box doesn't say 50th anniversary.  It just has a label on the top with the dates 1953-2003.

But it doesn't matter. The anniversary part didn't matter to me at all. The price, barrel length, and just having a 2nd Single Six to give to each of my sons one day is what appealed to me.

I'm glad you posted that. You confirmed my suspicion.

WRF is usually a seasonal run by CCI and Winchester.  Set yourself up for a reminder when it hits Midway and get some when they release it.  It’s to .22 WMR what the .38SPL if to the .357 Mag.  It always hot very well in my .22 Mag revolvers without the huge bark of the WMR.  Plenty of power for hunting the bigger critters like woodchucks and raccoons without all the extraneous noise and blast.

Just checked on Midway and they still have some.  Do yourself a favor and try it out.

I'm surprised anyone has it. I guess it's made more often than I thought.

I had to look it up. You can shoot wrf in wmr but not wmr in wrf. Wrf is between LR and WMR in length
