  Whatever the $$ received is bull.  The money was spent on the firearm.  Thus the firearm is more valuable than the money.

  I miss my M1 carbine and the money I was paid is no compensation cos the carbine came from the estate of the guy who taught me to hunt ducks. He died in 2010 when I was at the SE aged 101. No amount of money will replace the value of that firearm.)

  Classic cop behavior: Immediately deny any wrongdoing, assume the relationship between the public and the police is perfect, and downplay the event because a citizen discovered it. This guy must've studied Art Acevedo.
