Its a problem that has come from hiring being removed from the people who do the work.
It used to be that HR's job was to collect the resumes and present them to the first and second level of supervision. Now, because the people in charge are business degrees with no real experience, HR types have the time to write a paper about how they can pick better personnel than the people doing the work. Since having a business degree doesnt mean you actually know how the company runs and they tend to look down on the people who make it function, they believe the HR degree people. HR needs to justify their existence so the process gets drawn out so they can look like they are needed.
I have worked from the time that first level supervision made the call, took about 2 weeks to be hired, until now when it takes months to hire a guy to do the same job I was hired to originally and I have to say the group I started with that was interviewed by people who did the work, are still working there or moved on to other places after being good at the job they were hired for. Not to many that have been hired in the last 10 years were/are worth the months it took to get them there. Maybe 50% stayed, and a lot of them look better on paper than in the feild.

Im all for helping people that need it, but when you buy your junk food at 7-11 with your SNAP card (or whatever the heck they want to call it now) and then get into an AMG 63 I have a lot of issues. I had a chance to see it doing security upgrades in the city schools. Parents that claimed to have zero income would show up in Escalades and BMWs. We have apprentices that will only work 3-4 days a week so that they can keep government assistance. I see enough abuses to feel that the majority of the people in my area on assistance, probably shouldnt be. We even have JIWs that will game the system to collect as much sub pay and unenjoyment as they can instead of just working. People are lazy and want to do as little as they have to. Right now we have guys at work that dont do anything since they know that we have to have the manpower on the job and calls at the hall are going unfilled due to full employment. I would say that 1/3-1/2 of the job manpower could be eliminated and productivity would stay the same or improve.
In my experience people who are homeless or on public assistance fall into a number of categories. Very few of them would truly fall into the "just lazy" category, but yes sure there are people who will try to abuse any system.

I had a very close window into that world. My older brother is a worthless POS welfare scammer. He hasn't worked a total of 5 years out of 63....... When you are a WPOS, your friends are usually more WPOSs. Every time a new rule or benefit comes out, the info is spread around like a new tool at a construction site. They teach each other how to scam the system.
At least 50% if not 75% of food stamps are used for cigarettes, beer, or pot.......... I have personally been offered many many many grocery items for <50% off by brothers friends.
When you see the reciepts online with expensive steak being purchased with a SNAP card, people bellow, ''They eat better than I do!'' They aren't eating steak.... they are selling it.

Actually no. You need to work on the side for extras. He is happy to have nothing. When his son was young enough for them to get back $4-5K with the (un)earned tax credit, they would buy a cheap car and other useless junk. Within 4 to 6 months they had sold it all for pennies on the dollar......

The expensive car etc are almost all entirely financed through drugs or other black market hustles. No one on any kind of assistance is funding anything beyond a minimal subsistence lifestyle. However sure, plenty of criminals also collect SNAP benefits. Deeply poor communities have plenty of criminal activity to go with their poverty. That goes for urban ghettos and rural trailer parks.
Haha..... you are so naive about the world. There are sooo many ways people cheat the system that doesn't involve crime (other than lying to get a check). Some are very hard workers and make loads of money...... off the books.

He probably has $150,000 wrapped up in all of the accoutrements of the bass pro trial. One rod/reel combo is $1000 easy and he has dozens.
He has been on long term disability from work for years, gets Metro housing, SNAP card, free child care through HARCATUS, knows exactly the right month to stop paying electric and gas bill so HARCATUS will pay that as a lump. Pays for it all with side work as an electrician.

Was recently speaking to the Sr VP of a local supermarket chain. Biggest problem? Personnel. He said he can tell me when just about any of his employees will quit to go back on unemployment insurance and food stamps.
Friend of mine had a small real state related business in CO (Illegals doing the same job for less money finally forced him out of the business) and according to him his worst problem was finding reliable employees that could do the assigned jobs, basically some small building repairs/maintenance and assorted intensive cleaning jobs including carpets, furniture, etc. He provided meals, payment according market rates for the kind of job and working equipment but still couldn't find reliable people despite knowing a large bunch of people in the area that really nneded a job. Basically they complained about hard, long working hours (He payed overtime) and had to keep constantly hiring new workers.
He said that many Americans no matter if unemployed, refused to work "so hard" and/or "so long" (Many times he was also part of the working crew....no "desk ****" living from the sweat of his minions), skipped work a lot using assorted excuses ("Had to bail my wife from jail", "daughter ran away from home", "got a terrible hangover", etc.) or were late, usually with breath & clothes reaking from alcohol or pot, and complained a lot about everything. Usually job quality unless over-supervised was so-so at best, and clearly showed discomfort for having to work for a "Latino" (Although his family is Italian).
Also hired Mexicans; most had to be constantly checked to avoid problems and accidents, had to be trained in almost everything and were hard to trust; same reliability problems but less related to assorted addictions, specially drugs.
Eventually he got tired of srcraping only a few bucks, closed his business and decided to take some months for traveling and then plans to invest his small savings in a hosteling business in Europe.
According to him after 17 years of working in the US (He began as a pennyless illegal and ended up owning a house, 3 other properties and his own business) the worst problems for quite a few of the low wage able-body working man were plain laziness, an attutude towards hard, honest work and alcoholism/drug addiction, (specially pot, crack & meth consumption in the whole family structures), and the fact that thanks to government help, at least they hadn't to work to avoid starvation.
Disabled - It can be challenging to get classified as disabled, but once you are it's the best way to get the most benefits. I'd argue that most of the abuse actually comes in the disability system.
My brother does pretty good. He signed up for 4 years in the Navy. Went AWOL with a Filipino stripper and got a General Discharge. Just got a Quintuple bypass without paying a dime
