Earworms.....

LinefinderLinefinder ModeratorPosts: 7,047 Senior Member
We've all had them, some more annoying than others, but this one is crazy........

"The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia".....Vicki Lawerence version. I haven't heard that song in decades, but I've been going to bed with it and waking up to it for over a month.

This is driving me insane. I'd love to return to the days of "99 bottles of beer on the wall".

Apparently, one longer than 24 hours and you need to get an eval with you Dr.

Wow....that's kind of scary. I've been through a lot in the past 18 months....don't need more piling up on that.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by that link, it jogged my brain when you asked the question, I get some serious earworms during deer season sitting in my stand for hours on end

I think the 24 hour thing is a bit over dramatic. IMO, it's not an earworm until 3-4 days out.

Wall of Voodoo - Mexican Radio, is my most common. Love the song, but not played over and over in my head. Generally happens a few times a month. Sometimes I can forget it after a couple hours, sometimes it takes 24-48 to remove it... :D

Another one that is a joke at work is Rhinestone Cowboy. We put it into each others heads occasionally.

Mine are usually "The Minstrel Boy" or "The Parting Glass"... But recently it's been "Whisky in the Jar"

If something starts earworming into my head, my solution is to mentally press play on AC/DC's Highway to Hell.  Usually clears it up.  Does a GREAT job of purging insipid Christmas carols.  :D

Thanks. I think that and Rhinestone Cowboy is helping.

I have had an earworm for the last 27years and 14 days.  For the past 21 days it's been like "What are you going to do today? What are you going to do today?..."

Here's one that is GUARANTEED to drive out all others:

So many nights I'd sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his song
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark but now you've come along

And you light up my life
You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days and fill my nights with song

Rollin' at sea, adrift on the water
Could it be finally I'm turnin' for home?
Finally a chance to say "Hey, I love you"
Never again to be all alone

And you light up my life
You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days and…
'Cause you, you light up my life
You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days and fill my nights with song

    It can't be wrong
    When it feels so right
'Cause you…..you light up my life

Anytime a tune from the Police comes on I must change the station within the first four beats.

Don't stand, don't stand so, don't stand so close to me..

A buddy & I once sat up all night drinking beer and playing guitar while listening to an FM radio countdown of the top 200 rock songs of all time. By the time they were down to 5 remaining, we both knew it was going to be  "Hey Jude". No. 2 rolled around, and it was "Hey Jude".

We looked at each other stunned, thinking what else could possibly be left?

You got it....."You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boone, based on all time airplay.

Ricky looked over at me and said, "This so isn't gonna be worth the hangover".
