A delayed 59th..........ITS DUCK SEASON.

We had to forgo our traditional opening weekend on the first Saturday in May due to the lockdown.......and there was doubt whether there would even be a season, but, my 59th straight season starts in approx 45 1/2 hours.
Boat and motor is all checked, am starting to pack my gear ..........and am still excited as I was on my first opening when I was 7 yrs old.

The weather and tide on the first sat in May was perfect, early morning tide ( which meant the decoys would have been floating) and Sw winds overcast skies and rain.

Saturday looks like a repeat of last years weather and tides. 10.30am tide ( which means no water around the decoys till 9am), clear skies, no wind and probably fog. I expect the ducks will be flying overhead at around 10,000 feet on oxygen.........BUT I dont care!!!

Will have to be on top of my game with decoy placement, camouflage  and calling under these conditions. Again BH and I will head out to our separate spots tomorrow night, sleep in our 12' boats  fri and sat night and head back in on sunday. Its going to be cold both nights I'm picking......temp is forecast to be 4c or less both nights and sleeping under the stars in a small open boat aint for the fainthearted....or for the old....

BUT, its opening weekend and putting up with hardships is worth it. Will post up a hunt report when I get back on monday.

Still enjoying the trip of a lifetime and making the best of what I have.....
