So it's not Tuesday - sue me. This latest day-of-the-week theme is damned inconvenient as to when stuff comes out of the safe.
The story here. I learned how to shoot on my late uncle's Remington 510 Targetmaster single shot - - as did his brother my Dad, and probably every kid in S. Illinois from about 1960 to 1984. That one went back to my uncle's son and we're in the process of rehabilitating it's worn innards. You could ballast an aircraft carrier with the amount of lead that went through that rifle.
Last year, Dad & I joined up to drive to one of the gun shops at the outer edge of our daily and we found this:
This is a 510-X - - exactly the same rifle I learned on but with the sights used on the Nylon 66's. Probably unfired. Dad & I both looked it over for about 30 seconds and he said, "Well, I guess we pretty much have to. . ."
.22's are very much my "therapy guns", and this ranks high in my "I can be eight again for the next half hour" tool chest.
We took it out yesterday and I was shooting it as Dad independently worked on chronographing other stuff. I walked over and said to him "You know Pop, considering our long history with shooting the **** out of this model, it's funny that I have an internal voice whispering that I shouldn't be wearing this one out". He said, if you manage it, I'll buy you another one"
This one has a tip off scope rail milled on the receiver that my original did not. I doubt I'll be able to bring myself to ever use. Just not right, ya' know?
The 514 was my first gun! I got it as a Christmas present when I was 11 years old. After a bb guns it was what I taught my kids to shoot with. My son has it today.
1987 Anschutz Exemplar. From the box 8.5 oz trigger pull. The target is indoors, rested at 25 yards. Of course it’s my best. Why the target picture rotated I have no idea.
