Finally! A deer with a .338 Win Mag!
I’ve always been enamored with the .338 Win Mag. Even more so after reading several Boddington articles.

Several years ago, I bought a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in .338 Win Mag. Loved that gun! It was VIOLENT to shoot, even taking a chunk of skin out of a friends forehead. Unfortunately, I let GunNut talk me out of it in a moment of weakness. Then.........the bastard later sold it. 🤬
But, I’m not bitter about that Jedi Mind trick. I promise I’m over it.............I think. 😁
Aaaaaaannnyway...........fast forward to 2016 and a buddy of mine has a stainless Remington 700 in .338 WM he wants our Mentor to rebarrel to .300 Win Mag. I asked him if I could have the take off .338 barrel and he said I could. So, I quickly ran to Walmart and got a new Remington 700 ADL in 7mm Rem Mag for $324 as a donor action then dropped off both rifles to my Mentor.

After replacing the trigger, bedding the factory stock, and painting it with AlumaHyde, I had a pretty decent looking .338 Win Mag!

After working up a load with 225gr Speed Deep Curl Bullets, she shot pretty well to boot!!

It’s taken awhile, but I finally got around to taking it hunting yesterday evening. While not intended to be a deer rifle, having elk in mind for its purpose, I’ve come to the conclusion I’ll likely never elk hunt again........so deer it is.

I haven’t put in for the draw up there in a few years and didn’t draw when I did. My dad and buddy have applied every year and haven’t drawn in several years. I still plan to elk hunt up there with my 454 Casull Encore one of these years... Needless to say, it’s a lot cheaper for me..
