R.I.P Fry's Electronics

Closing all their stores.
Too bad.  I haven't been there in a few years but back in the day I built more than a couple of pc's with parts lovingly picked from their awesome inventory.
Them and Cabellas, about the only places I could "browse".
That's all I got.

Aww.  Used to hit the one in North Austin with regularity,  Sad to see them go

It always seemed to me that 'Fries Electronics" was a really unfortunate name choice. :D

I was never one to do my own electronics, but it's depressing that there seem to now be an insufficient number of folks who do to support a chain like that.

Almost everything made today is plug and play.  If it does not work you plug it into an app and it tells you what is broke.  Take off the broken part, plug in a new one and keep going.  Washers, dryer, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators , even our cars are like that.  Small things like hand mixer, radio, hairdryers, we just toss and get a new one.

The last computer I built most parts came from Fry's in Las Vegas. We were in Vegas last January but unfortunately did not have time to go to their store, guess that was probably my last chance.

My first visit to a S Cal store went "where can I find the motherboards"
"Isle 4, turn right between the modems and power supplies".

    That's all I got.
